Do you have true allergies?

Post by Zizzle »

I'm begenning to notice many people with lots of true (IG-E mediated?) allergies don't seem to suffer from autoimmune diseases (at least they don't mention them). My husband is a very allergic person but has a gut of steel and no signs of autoimmunity except for childhood asthma aggravated by allergies. Just wondering who here has true allergies, and if so, what kinds?

Could allergic people have their immume systems diverted towards fighting allergens instead of self?

Sorry the options are not more numerous. Feel free to post your answers if you have other combinations.

Zizzle
my combo was not available in the poll I am A B C F H

I am allergic to banana's (known since i was a baby) which also links to latex allergy

also allergic to Penicillan since early childhood

Allergy stress has big impact on Adrenal function and can lead to Adrenal fatigue. After a childhood where i was constantly sick and then other events i have lived a disjointed and fair to say stressful life, my thoughts at the moment are does the adrenal fatigue make the MC flare or does the MC put pressure on the adrenals (or both)

More than a few of us suffer from hay fever and/or asthma, in addition to food intolerances, (including myself).

Supplementation with large doses of folic acid, (19 x RDA), seems to suppress hay fever for me.

I have hay fever, and sensitivity to latex. I'm not sure the latex is a full-fledged allergy, but my lips swelled up when I used latex rubber bands on my braces. So that would be A and maybe H.

The Immunologist is pretty sure I have allergic rhinitis.

I have tested negative to dust mites, mold, and the common grasses and pollens for my area. Two weeks time I go back and she is considering testing for more things. I'll be interested to see if she finds anything.

My son is/was allergic to unripe bananas.

I am allergic to pollen, cats/dogs (I count horses here, lol), nickel, latex and bandaid adhesive. I am also allergic to wheat, tomatoes, and morphine.

My father is allergic to leather, believe it or not.

I am not sure what to put. When you said allergic to shellfish but prefaced it with "anaphylactic" I didn't check it but I have always considered myself allergic to shrimp , since I first ate it at 15 and got really bad pains in my stomach and threw up like crazy for hours. Happpend a second time when I accidently ate some tho not as bad. But now I am thinking this is a food intolerance not an allergy.

I am definitely allergic to sulpha drugs ( get Stephen Johnson's syndrome.. swelling of all the soft tissues), and to perfumes, and to something used in grocery stores but I don't know what it is (cleaning products?) gives me hayfever symptoms (runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes) really bad, just about every time I go into both of our grocery stores.

I'm allergic to Nickel, penicillin, clams and scallops, and a spice/fragrance group called Balsam of Peru. My clams and scallops allergy is similar to Linda's shrimp allergy.

I was surprised to see Nickel on the list. Is it that common? I don't know anyone else with it.

I have to have gold earrings, and I react to the snap on my jeans and other fastenings if they are on my skin because of my nickel allergy.

I have to put plastic sleeves over the posts of my gold earrings to prevent my ears acting like they are infected. I can wear my rings, bracelets, and necklaces with no problem. It's just earrings that make my skin react.

I seem to be allergic to a lot of things. I had allergy shots for 9 years as a child. I still have major problems with dust mites, mold and mildew, and pollen. I have also developed a reaction to sulfites that makes me break out in hives, so no more shrimp for me!

I also will get contact dermatitis from some lotions and deodorants, especially Suave products! I have no idea why, but it has been going on since I was a kid and got some Suave deodorant.

I have had major problems with eczema on my face, hands, and other places on my body. My sister shares many of the same problems. Both of us are on prescription allergy meds. I am also on prescription steroid nose spray and she is on prescription eye drops.

About four times per year, I get sinus problems because of allergies. These typically develop into a sinus infection, and then bronchitis. I have been in this cycle since I was a small child. I am firmly convinced that these conditions predisposed me to MC.

Mags

P.S.

I will often react strangely to metals, even stainless steel. My Movado watch occasionally turns my arm black. I don't know whether this is related to hormones, but I suspect they are a contributing factor.

I see I voted in the poll but never posted here.

I am A & F (tested). The only other reaction that I can think of is that I get a bad headache from the scent of some colonges. Real perfume poses no problem though.
