Yup, watch out Bambi and friends! I am excited to be going to Mt. Rainier too...I plan on going to the back entrance ...I have never gone this way before Peg, so it will be an adventure....you will be co-pilot/navigator...OK? We will hit Sunrise first and head up to Paradise and then out the other side of the park...any body out there know what I'm talking about? At Paradise, the summit seems soooo close on a clear day...bring your camera!

I have planned a small party for Friday night, and how about Harbor Lights when we get home from the mountain???????

This will be a blast.....

Sounds perfect! I checked out Mt. Rainier on the web so know exactly what you're talking about. I don't have a good camera to bring. Ron does, but his is huge and very expensive so no way I'm bringing that. One of these days I'll get me a new digital camera, but I still have to recoup from buying new appliances and a computer...not to mention the fact that we have to pay our portion of the re-piping of our building...the pocketbook is a little sore. Maybe I'll just pick up one of those disposables.

A party Friday night? Okay I'll bring the tequila and maybe you should get someone to pick up some marg-all-righta mix...I'm sure not everyone likes it straight up like me. I'll pick up some beer, too. I think duty-free allows me beer and spirits.

See you in ONE week!

I sort of know what you are talking about. Except I went in the Carbon River entrance up to Lake Mowash. It was the most beautiful place I have ever been. There is a bridge over the Carbon River just outside the park that looks down into a canyon way down below. It was so beautiful that it gave me goose bumps. I was in a trance. And there were wildflowers all over the place. Lucky you, Peg and Jill. I think part of me is still up there tromping through the woods.

Lots of love,

Sally

Mowash, Mowich, Whatever. My heart is still there. It was a religious experience, I am not kidding!   I wish I were coming, too. Mt. Rainier is my second favorite mountain. My favorite is Three Fingered Jack down here in Oregon. In the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Or close to it.

Being able to get so close to the high mountains is an honor.

Love,

Sally

I am going to have to tell my hubby about this back way to paradise. We need a little bit of nature! When the relatives were here from Texas we tried and tried to get them to go to Mt. Ranier. Nope, guess where they wanted to go? Southern Oregon, almost to the CA border to see the OREGON VORTEX. Can you believe they would rather go there than Mt. Ranier?! Darryl's twin sister and nephew will be here on the 20th and they too want to go to the vortex. Darryl is beside himself!

Hugs,

Lori

Hahahaha...Sally, for all I know, there could be a Mowash Lake too! I had never heard of it before a friend told me about it a few years ago. His family had a cabin on the Carbon River....I just remembered that I stayed there one weekend a few years ago and came home with D on Monday...I thought I had giardia(sp?) from washing in the stream....alas...it was CC, sigh....ah such memories! I can sympathize with Darryl, Lori. The Vortex is ridiculous. On the other hand, it's a hop, skip, and a jump from Mt. Shasta.

I was just thinking how fortunate we are to live near these mountains where we can take off and visit the wilderness in a weekend. Maybe it's time to get out there myself? I went to Warm Springs one year and stayed in a teepee. Every day for three days I would get out in the car and drive up to a hill from which I could sit and look at mountains as far as I could see. Almost from Mt. Shasta to Mt. Rainier. I sat on a blanket and there was nobody else there, but me and the wind. What an experience!!

Lots of love,

Sally

Jill, you got CC on the Carbon River??? How terrible to have to carry such a memory about such a gorgeous place!! I am so sorry.

Hi, well, actually I didn't get D until I went back to work on Monday....but yes, I still associate the beginning of my CC with that trip.

I went back to my friend's cabin this summer...I may have mentioned it in a post...the bummer is....my friends owned the cabin, but leased the land...it was one of those sad situations...the land was sold and will eventually become part of Mt. Rainier National Park. This is great news, except many people had really cute cabins in that area and all of them had to vacate them this summer.

My neighbors went hiking on the Naches Trail today...I can hardly wait to hear about it.....JJ
