Wow! Lyn,

You've really been going round and round with that virus. If that strain shows up over here, and I feel as though I'm catching it, I think I'll try the vitamin D therapeutic treatment, (50,000 IU per day for 3 days). 7 weeks is a looooooooooong time to have to deal with a cold.

I hope you can get it under control soon.

Thanks Tex,

Actually, that strain should already be in your area. I caught it from some US tourists who said they had caught it in New Zealand. And I am sure one of them was from Texas somewhere. Maybe they stopped being infectious by the time they got home!

Anyway don't worry too much - hubby took a much more reasonable 10 days to get it under control, with just a few days of residual cough. It's just my missing immune system being a pest.

A Texan? Say it isn't so. I apologize for all Texans, in that case. :sigh:

I forgot that you are IgA deficient. It never dawned on me that could be a factor, when you mentioned the cold.

Well I for one have felt great on antibiotics (Normans!). 10 days of Keflex even cured my lactose intolerance for a few weeks (pre-MC). But I haven't been on an antibiotic since I was officially diagnosed last year. During my 2 pregnancies and several years of nursing I refused to take any cold meds, so I became a fanatic sinus irrigator. I never bought the fancy NetiPot. I just used a 10 CC siringe to shoot the warm salt water up my nostrils. Then I'd arch my head in different directions to make sure the sinuses were getting thoroughly cleaned out. Worked great, although I did resort to Afrin-style nasal sprays once or twice. I figured they were safer than a systemic decongestant, and Sudafed could have dried up my milk supply.

Otherwise, I double up on Vitamin D and C, add zinc, and lots of hot tea.

But there is definitely a time and place for antibiotics.

Thank you everyone.

I have an earache which is new to me I have never had one of those before.

I have been taking the mucinex and the neti pot, although the water does not go through both nostils only one. I just keep trying.

I am feeling better now even though the cough will hang on for some time I know from past illness.

Thanks for all the advise.
