Are we truly a divided nation? - political poll
Just for fun, post election - those of you who are American, how do you identify yourself on the political party spectrum? Could being of a certain political party predispose you to MC? Let's find out.
Well, the events of the last couple of years have "converted" a lot of votes, but that's a transient event that happens somewhat cyclically, in the world of politics, so I doubt that it has much effect on one's vulnerability to develop MC.
If political affiliation has anything to do with MC, then we should be able to see huge differences in disease incidence, across the borders of the People's Republik of Kalifornia, (otherwise known as California).

P. S. Remember that politics and religion are taboo subjects on most discussion boards, because they're the topics mostly likely to start arguments, and create hard feelings.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

An article in yesterday's paper says researchers have discovered a "liberal" gene - those with a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4 have a genetic predisposition toward being liberal. Having this gene along with the environmental factor of having had many friends in adolescence apparently makes one more liberal. Go figure.
Wouldn't surprise me though, if there isn't a genetic predisposition for both liberal and conservative leanings - for the most part these ideologies seem to be equally divided among the population, with most folks tending toward the middle. We seem to learning that almost everything has a genetic basis. Another interesting example - that "risk" gene that certain people have that predisposes them to exciting, risking undertakings, like extreme sports.

That pesky dopamine receptor has all sort of affects. I remember reading about a "failing to learn from mistakes" gene.....a dopamine A1 variant. It caught my attention because I worked with a guy who was always having disastrous experiences. He was around 40 years old and would impulsively repeat behavior that had brought him grief in the past. For example, he was always picking up hitchhikers even though he had been robbed or seriously threatened several times. Anyone else would have decided not to pick up any more hitchhikers, but not him! http://www.bionews.org.uk/page_13253.asp

Hmmmmmmm. I have to agree that if there is a "liberal" gene, then there is surely a "conservative" gene.
We have such a wide diversity of members, though, that I doubt that political influences are significant to the development of the disease. Still, who knows? Stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Wow! Now that's a bad gene to have. I'm guessing that it's very widespread in the general population in this country, and it predisposes to the desire to vote in the general elections, and it somehow becomes activated when we step into a voting booth.

The weekends paper had a long story on how they have done a full mapping of Ossie Osborne's genes.
Apparently he has true neanderthal genes. He also has both a warrior and worrier gene - normally you only have one or the other. Apparently the first explains trying to bite heads of bats, the second is a reason for doing drugs.
One of the objectives of the exercise is to supposedly see if there is a genetic basis for him still being alive after so much time abusing his body, and especially his liver. A sort of 'surviving alcoholism gene'. And yes, there were several genes that they found that may indicate why he has survived.

This is most polarized election that I have seen. Given both the terrible economic condition coupled with a very progressive liberal agenda, I think has led many to either be to the 'left' or right' with very little common ground in the middle. This has been reflected in how neither party can seem to work well with the other in Washington.

Now there's an interesting subject. I have a lot of respect for Ozzie. I can't say that I've ever been a fan of his music, (or his lifestyle, or anything else about him, for that matter - though his wife seems nice enough, and totally out of place, of course), but I've always considered him to be the 8th wonder of the world. Seriously, though, he must have a helluva set of genes, to last so long. Most of our celebrity performers who rely on drugs/alcohol at that kind of level, are lucky to barely make it past half his age.

LOVE Ozzie, LOVE his music but never could understand the abuse he does (hopefully did) to himself. He is defintely the missing link Tex.
Actually the first concert I ever saw was a trio - Mountain, Black Sabbath (Ozzie) and Blue Oyster Cult. What a great time it was.

I LOVE Ozzie too! My son is going to see him live in concert next week. (I am currently trying to get tickets to see U2 next June).

Ozzie fan here, and Mountain fan and Blue Oyster Cult fan. I saw Blue Oyster Cult in concert in 1978, but never had the opportunity to see Mountain or Black Sabbath. Blue Oyster Cult played the county fair here in 2009. I did not attend because I live close to the fair grounds and can hear all concerts from my patio, where the seating is much more comfortable and the bathroom is handy (clean, too!)
