Interesting...maybe there's hope ahead at least for gluten intolerance.

IMO - The gluten issue is getting alot of focus......

but for most of us MC'ers... it is the other items (dairy, eggs, soy etc) that are harder to remove from our diets

Gabes,

Yes, it is getting a lot of attention, because a lot of people recognize it as a rapidly growing market, and therefore they see it as a profit opportunity.

The problem with the enzyme supplement "treatment" is that there are many, (almost a hundred), different peptides in the gliadin and glutenin protein fractions that we react to. Most of them are not nearly as potent as the most serious offender, (the alpha gliadin fraction), but they still cause a certain degree of reaction for many of us, and the cumulative effect is probably quite significant for some of us. IOW, even if the enzyme supplement effectively breaks down the alpha gliadin peptide, we will still be accruing damage from some of the other gliadin and glutenin fractions that the enzyme supplement will not address. Whether the damage is enough to trigger a flare, will probably depend on individual sensitivities, since we're all different.

And, of course, as you point out, there's still the problem of all those other food sensitivities that the enzyme treatments will not address.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
