I have also been taking the probiotic called Sustenex for about 6 months and I think it has helped me a great deal. My GI doc told me about it and said could try it and see if it would work. He said it does for some patients, and again as everyone says, what works for one may not work for everyone.

My naturopath and acupuncturist are keen that i take a probiotic since being diagnosed. my attempts at taking them have not gone well.

Further research by the naturopath is that as my ingredient intake is so different and the digestion process is now very different (and still slightly inflammed and under stress) that for any new treatment that i should take minimal dose first up and work up. This has worked for the other sub lingual treatments i take. i start out with 1/8th of a dose and work up to half dose over the course of 4 weeks.

we were discussing this yesterday and the probiotic that i have (lactose free gluten free etc) (25 million) that i am going to open the capsule and only have a couple of granules each day in juice and work up to a reasonable dosage

yes the idea is to take the probiotic in the capsule so that it is released further in the digestion process, but we feel that for anything 'new' that enters my body, we have to give my body time to accept it.

this 'trial' will happen in a couple of weeks, when i am home and life is more settled.

I tried Flora Q and then VSL #3 years ago for "IBS."

May have to reconsider a good probiotic.
