Hot Flashes and Tummy Disturbance
My goodness...something about lunch is not setting well in my tummy and ever since eating (I finished an hour ago) I have been burping away, and hot flashing like crazy. So far my lower gut has been okay. But I guess I was wondering, for those of you through or going through menopause, do meals set you off for them hot flashes? I have read, of course, that spicy food will do it, but I had a salad with turkey, roast beef and ham deli meat on it, cheese (no casin problem here) and some fairly mild honey mustard dressing.
I know my tummy is a bit unhappy because I did not adhere to my diet this weekend while I was away with friends....plus I've been not great about it since Geoff and I went on vacation about a month ago....must get back on the bandwagon here. But this is crazy!

Well, since I've obviously had no experience with this, the best I can do is suggest looking at this site, to see if there's anything there that rings a bell, or looks like it might be worth trying. Apparently diet does matter:

Hi, Katy and Wayne.
I am so glad that you started this thread, Katy, because I have been suffering right along with you. The summer heat makes me much worse. I was bad last year during hot weather, and symptoms let up with cooler weather. Eating anything sets me off, the act of eating seems to bring on the flushes. The thing I have found to help me most is to run my hands, wrists and forearms under cold water at the first sign of a flush, and it will usually kill it.
Wayne..thank you so much for posting the links. I have been researching memopausal symptoms, but I have not seen these sites. I have been having heart palpitations during the night upon awakening with a hot flash, and I almost get myself into a stage of panic. I have not told anyone except my husband, because it is not something that you want to talk about. This site states that panic attacks and heart palpitations are common in women during memopause, and that most panic attacks are the result of IMPROPER BREATHING! I do breath very shallow, and the information goes on that when one chest breathes instead of breathing with the diaphragm, it causes a build-up of carbon monoxide which causes the feelings of panic and the heart palpitations. There was a lot of useful information there including instructions on how to breathe into a paper bag to halt a panic attack.
I feel very relieved after reading some of the article. At least I know that I'm not loosing my mind, and that there is an explanation for these symptoms. This is very out of the ordinary for me, and I am thankful for the information. My poor husband feels so sorry for me. He is very supportive.
Thanks again, Wayne..you may not be a woman, but you are sure right on the money with your research.
Big hugs,
Geri

I tried Remifemin (Black Cohosh) 2 or 3 years ago. Couldn't tell that it did much for me.
Has anyone else had a problem where you are just hotter than most people ALL the time. If I take my temp it's usually a little below normal but I feel HOT all the time almost. Anytime I'm cold my husband says I must be sick.
We are constantly adjusting the AC when the other isn't looking.

I went through that being hot all the time thing about 5 years ago when my endometriosis flared up. I think a lot of the sick feelings I was having were related to hormonal imbalances. I too run low normal (usually 97.6 - 97.8). My secretaries hated me that year because I was wearing t-shirts to work and turning the heat down. I kept trying to tell them to wear a sweater, but they didn't want to. Even threatening to take my shirt of didn't help!
I'm feeling better...aka, got over that episode. I'm really tired though, so I'll look at those sites another night. Wow, there is so much to this stuff. As my sister said, its no wonder women have always been considered the weaker sex...we have these body changes that make us feel like crap! If some of us weren't so head strong (and I refer to myself here) we'd crawl into bed and stay there.

Katy,
I'm with you on the cold temps. My house feels like an igloo. My husband is not a big man..not an inch of body fat to keep him warm, and he has been wearing sweat shirts and flannels around the house all summer...he said he may as well go to Alaska, and I told him that women there are probably hot too....LOL.
I'm glad you are feeling better...endo is no fun..as you know, and can cause so many problems. You are much too young to be bothered by these old lady problems...LOL. And to think I used to make fun of my MIL when she had hot flashes.
Love,
Geri

Yes, Shirley, I am too hot all the time. It's like having one big long hot flash. Well, no, actually, when the temp is down in the 60's I am quite comfortable. In the Spring when it gets up to 50-something I open all the doors and windows.
Katy, I hear you about wearing short-sleeved shirts in the winter!! You can always put on more clothes, but when you've taken off everything, what can you do?
Does anybody here sleep with one sticking out from under the covers to keep your body from getting too hot?
Love,
Sally

Sally,
When you asked for that smilie, I was certain that you would put it to good use, and I must say, you certainly haven't disappointed me. LOL.
I too, often sleep with one uncovered, (but not in the winter).

Wayne

Yes 365 days a year.
I can not remember my feet ever not being hot. The last two months have been very hot with record temps, several times a day I stick the air compressor hose into my shoes to cool off my feet. Weeks on end of 95 to 105 temps every day has been enough to drive me nuts. Not a long trip. Some people don't think I heat my house or shop in winter and yet when I wake up at nite is is becasue my feet are hot under the covers and when I uncover my feet I go back to sleep. Always thought it was just me.
