Hello everybody,
I haven't written for awhile. I gave my dad my laptop while his was out of commission. I have gotten on a few times and have noticed a lot of newbies here. Welcome, you have found a wonderful place for help, information, and great people.
Polly, I truly apologize not replying back to your email.
First, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and didn't get sick. I was so very excited, my youngest son, whose stationed in Afghanistan in the Army, was scheduled to arrive home on Thanksgiving day. I had talked to him almost daily the week prior to him leaving Afghanistan and he was so excited to get to come home. He left his first station on Friday before Thanksgiving to start his trip home. Well, he called on Saturday just in tears, that someone had totally screwed up and didn't have his name in that group that was scheduled to leave.. So with his bags packed to come home, he was sent back to the fields. He was devastated, I was as well, so upset, cried for hours, then just went into a depression. I didn't want to cook, be around anyone, just wanted to be alone. I'm sorry I haven't written much here.
Anyway, I hurt my back about 2 weeks ago working in the yard and it's been
really bothering me. Over the holidays, I kept my grandson alot and having to
constantly pick him up, I really was in a great deal of pain. Yesterday, I couldn't get out of the bed. I called my PCP and he was booked for 3 weeks, as well as his Dr. asst. So, I opted to see the Chiropractor. She examined me and thought I had an UTI and sent me to get checked. It came back,
positive, yes an UTI. I have never had such extreme back pain from an UTI.
They prescribed me Bactrum, no pain medicine.... So I went to the health food store to pick up cranberry juice and the lady sold me some, Manno Max,
supplement D-Mannose. Does anyone have any information about this product? Does it help with UTI's? Will it cause any stomach issues?
Also, anything on the antibiotic, Bactrum?
Thanks everyone!!

Update and question about an UTI

Sorry about the UTI. If it's causing extreme backpain, chances are you have a kidney infection. You don't have fever or other symptoms?? My daughter and I have been prescribed Bactrim in the past for UTIs. I never had an issue tolerating it. I only recently discovered D-Mannose. It's GREAT!! I discovered cranberry pills a while ago, and they do seem to knock out an early UTI. D-mannose seems to be a higher concentrate of the active ingredient in cranberries. My daughter had UTI symptoms and a positive Leukocyte urine test strip a couple of weeks ago. I loaded her up with D-mannose and cranberry chews and she woke up the next day with no symptoms!! The D-mannose stops the bacteria (E.coli) from adheing to the urinary tract and bladder walls. They basically wash away. However, if the infection has reached your kidneys, I would definitely take the antibiotic too.
If you need pain relief from the burning urinary pain, you can buy OTC piridium now, but I doubt it will help the back pain.
I hope you feel better soon!

Tanya,
Sooo sorry to read about your son not being able to return home as expected - that must have been absolutely devastating for you and him - keeping my fingers crossed that the paperwork gets straightened out in the near future!!! Amazing how when we're really down and out, more bad things happen.
Hope you're finally seeing some progress with your MC, but after all your latest problems, that's probably very unlikely. I read somewhere that D-mannose helped someone with their MC, as well as the UTI, so perhaps it will give you some relief. I will be sending lots of positive thoughts your way and hope and pray that things will turn around for you very soon.
Love,
Kari

Hi Tanya,
I'm so sorry to hear of you and your son's disappointment caused by a paperwork oversight. Both of you certainly had a reason to be depressed.
This thread is kind of long, but in addition to what Zizzle wrote, it contains a lot of information about D-mannose:

Tanya, what a heartache about your son I would have felt the same way you did. I just wanted to let you know that the thread Tex gave you was one I started. Dmannose did amazing things for me and helped my mc get better. I don't take it now because I don't need it, but at certain times during my healing process I know it helped me a lot. Good luck and I wouldn't worry about taking it, JoAnn
