Question About So Delicious Coconut Milk

Post by tex »

Since I haven't had any luck finding it locally, with the other milk and milk substitutes, where should I be looking? Is it a refrigerated product, or does it come in aseptic packaging?

It is a refridgered product, my husband got some for me. I don't know where he found it though, I'll asked him when he gets home from work.

Or have a look for Ayam brand canned coconut milk. No additives, even says gluten free.

Around here it is in the asian food section of the supermarkets.

I've seen it in the refrigerated section with the non-dairy milk.

Thai Kitchen's Organic Coconut Milk is likely the only company that does not add water to the coconut milk. I've been told that there is guar gum in there, though they don't have it on their allergen sheet. It comes in cans. Also, there is Lets Do... Organic, Creamed Coconut, which is only coconut, which you can mix with hot water to make a coconut milk.

I buy the generic 365 brand canned organic coconut milk at Whole Foods. It has guar gum and water, but it is plenty creamy, in my opinion, and of course, less expensive.

Trader Joe's sells a "light" coconut milk in a can containing nothing but coconut milk and water. It is made from the second pressing of the coconut and doesn't have as strong of a coconut taste as the first pressed milk, but it works fine for my coconut pudding.

Tex,

I buy it at Kroger (I think you have Kroger in your neck of the woods). It was originally sold in the dairy case but now is also availble on the shelf next to rice milk as well.

OK, apparently I've been looking in the right places, but in the wrong stores. Unfortunately there are no Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or Krogers, reasonably close by. I'll have to put it on hold until I get a little farther from home, one of these days, (to a bigger city).

I did find some of the Silk Almond Milk today, and it looks good, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Many thanks, everyone,

Tex,
So Delicious coconut milk is not available at Trader Joe's, unless that changed recently. I buy it at Whole Foods and, would you believe...TARGET! My local Target Greatland remodeled and started selling more fresh groceries recently. They sell all the milk substitutes!! It wouldn't surprise me if Walmart does too.

Kroger may have an affiliate closer to home than you think, Tex (depending on how big your closest town is). If you look here: http://www.thekrogerco.com/ you may see one you know. When I lived in Kansas, I shopped at Dillon's and Food4Less, which are both Kroger. Up here, I sometimes shop at Freddy's, uh, Fred Meyer's, which is also Kroger.

Good suggestion about Target and Wal-Mart, Zizzle! I will have to stroll around those stores to see what healthy choices they have that I didn't know about.

I haven't seen any Kroger affiliates around here, and every time I try their store locator, (for 2 days, now), I get a message that it isn't working - try later.

There's a brand new Target store within about 25 miles, though, that I remember seeing, the last time I visited Home Depot, (which is across the parking lot from it), so I'll try there, the next time I get over there. Walmart doesn't carry it in this area- at least the ones that I've checked, don't have it. Maybe the product is just slow to arrive in this part of the country.

Jill,

I haven't looked up the calorie specs on that particular one, but as a rule, coconut milk usually has a pretty high fat content, and a high calorie rating - it's pretty "rich" stuff, in general.

I took a special trip into the Binghamton, N.Y. area today to go to a Wegman's grocery store. I found the So Delicious Coconut Milk.
It does contain carrageenan which made me think of Polly. It also states that all ingredients are non-GMO.
I ended up getting the Vanilla flavor.
1 up has 90 calories.

Haven't tried it yet though.
