Looking for GF, DF, SF Christmas Ham
We're spending Thanksgiving with my son and family, and their tradition is to have a ham for Christmas dinner. Since my DIL and 2 grandkids have CD, the ham of course is always gluten free. But I also need to be DF (no butter) and SF. She told me that she would be fine with a turkey for Christmas, but I'd like to find a nice glazed ham that works for everyone.
I thought I had found it when I read on the internet that the Honeybaked Ham is GF, DF, and SF. But that's not completely true. It turns out that when the original owner of Honeybaked Ham died, the company was split up amongst the 4 children and each got a segment of the country to market the Honeybaked label. Several years ago, 3 regions, but not the western region changed their glaze to be GF, DF and SF. The western region has a different glaze that contains wheat and soy. So you need to check the ingredients label at the store you are buying the ham from to find out if the glaze contains wheat and soy. This is yet another example of how tricky it can be to not get glutened! So living on the West Coast, it's not going to work.
Does anyone here have a brand that works for them and has that nice glaze?

Rosie,
I sent a Honeybaked Ham to my in-laws in Arizona last Christmas because we would be visiting and I wanted to make sure we had a GF option since I din't trust my mother in law. I contacted the store I ordered it from and was assured it was gluten free. We didn't get sick.
Have you checked Whole Foods? I think I remember seeing some hams there that looked like they had acceptable ingredients. Boars Head hams are also gluten free.

I bought a small Boar's Head ham for Christmas.
This website gives links for information on GF turkey and some ham brands. It is also very current.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Thanks for all the suggestions, Mary Beth, Marliss and Gloria. In my dreams I want a pre-made spiral cut and tasty glazed ham, but like so often happens with us, will need to compromise. Maybe I should be content with a plain spiral cut ham that I can enhance myself. Yes!! And with a home-made glaze that will be even better than the commercial stuff!!

Jillian, there IS a Trader Joe's in town. I'll check out their ham as well as the Cosco and Boars Head. Sounds like I should be able to find something close to what I want, thanks to all the good suggestions!

Depending on what part of the country you could check on Hempler's brand and Snake River Kurobuta hams. And most of your local butchers I would imagine would have a more natural type ham to offer. I have been in the meat business for almost 20 years and have noticed most company's are offering more options than ever.
