I hear you. I've been in a few places like that, too, but since I'm more afraid of gluten than germs, I adjust my thinking accordingly.
On trips, I've eaten the chili at Wendy's, and it ain't half-bad. I believe the product is OK, in general, but the last time I tried it, when I got to the bottom of the bowl, there was a chunk of something that didn't look like chili, and didn't taste like chili, and sure enough, a few hours later, it cleaned me out. I'm guessing that it was just something that had accidentally fallen into the chili.
What puzzles me is why I ate it anyway. I noticed that it didn't look right, and when I bit down on it, it didn't taste right, and yet I ate it anyway.
Why do people do such dumb things?
I was discussing the next leg or our trip, with my traveling companion, and even though a red flag went up, for some reason, I didn't respond to it, and I just went ahead and chewed it up and swallowed it. Afterward, it dawned on me that maybe I should have paid more attention to what I was doing. LOL.
