a reasonable article

Post by Gabes-Apg »

an article that highlights that a GF /DF diet is not necessarily a choice,.....

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... 1066a.html

Traveling away from the security of a GFCF kitchen takes extra planning.
"Planning, planning and more planning is the first order of business," says Jackie Polvado, co-founder of the local publication Connections Kids: The Special Needs Directory, and mother of three GFCF children (ages 9, 6 and 4). "Decide what needs to be made ahead of time and what can be bought upon arrival."

Good article, Gabes, thanks for posting this. Wendy's has GF items... that's amazing. I just wonder what training they do of their employees.

Yesterday I ate my first meal out since going GF at a little hole-in-the-wall BBQ place here in McKinney, TX. They may not have passed muster if I was a food inspector, but the BBQ and the green beans were excellent. This whole trip has given me confidence that I really can live this way without mistakes and without feeling deprived.

I hear you. I've been in a few places like that, too, but since I'm more afraid of gluten than germs, I adjust my thinking accordingly.

On trips, I've eaten the chili at Wendy's, and it ain't half-bad. I believe the product is OK, in general, but the last time I tried it, when I got to the bottom of the bowl, there was a chunk of something that didn't look like chili, and didn't taste like chili, and sure enough, a few hours later, it cleaned me out. I'm guessing that it was just something that had accidentally fallen into the chili.

What puzzles me is why I ate it anyway. I noticed that it didn't look right, and when I bit down on it, it didn't taste right, and yet I ate it anyway. Why do people do such dumb things? I was discussing the next leg or our trip, with my traveling companion, and even though a red flag went up, for some reason, I didn't respond to it, and I just went ahead and chewed it up and swallowed it. Afterward, it dawned on me that maybe I should have paid more attention to what I was doing. LOL.

Because of the starving children in India. That is how I was trained as a child to finish everything on my plate.

You're probably right. It's hard to break old habits.
