I was diagnosed in early Dec. with MC after a colonoscopy. It all being 5 months ago and has been off and on, sometimes lasting for 4 or 5 days then getting better for short periods. I just began the Pepto Bismol 8 week treatment and hoping it will help. I also take Diarrhea Stop by Jarrow when needed and probiotics. Next week I am visiting a nutritionist for a 4 week program to try to figure out what is triggering this. I try to stay very active in between the bouts. I too have lost weight, 10 pounds, so I am now down to 106. Thank goodness I am only 5' tall.
I am leaving for a cruise on Feb. 7th and a little concerned about that, but don't want to cancel.
So far I have found this forum to be very comforting with lots of food ideas and encouragement.

Hello Nancy welcome here, sorry to hear you have MC too, like all of us here. There is a lot of information to find here on this page, so I would suggest take a look around and ask as many questions as you want. I got diagnosed about one and half year ago, all I know about MC, all the useful information I found here. Great people here, we are like a family.
Did your GI suggest entocort? That is the most common medication used for MC and so far the most effective one. Another way to treat MC and what is also done by a lot of members here is diet. Most important is gluten, than follows diary and than soy and a view are also egg and yeast free.
I am treating my MC with diet and medication (entocort) and doing quite well on it. Although it isn't always easy, the diet part.
Well, again Welcome and I hope this site will be as useful for me as it have been for me the last one and a half year.

Hi Nancy,
Welcome to our internet family. Your MC seems to behave the same as mine, except that my cycle was a little longer, but it alternated, also.
Not many members read these medical profiles, so you may not get many responses from this post. If you will post up in the Main Message Board, you will get many more responses, because that's where most members "hang out".
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
thank you
Thank you both for the welcome. To answer Harma, no he has not prescribed Entocort. I had not even heard of it until I read this forum. I do have an appointment with him next week and will ask about it. I am hoping that working with the nutritionist will help. This month I only had two bad days out of about 16. I am also nervous about taking the Pepto Bismol because it may cause constipation. So much to think about. I can't believe all the good information on this website. What I did notice though is that most people seem to have intolerance to gluten and dairy. I can have both for many days with no issues, then a day of D. Although I have very little dairy now.
WELCOME NANCY!!!
As you've already discovered, there is a wealth of experience and information on this site. No question is disgusting or off limits. We've probably experienced a similar situation and will be able to relate.
If you're unsure of which foods could be causing problems, we highly recommend keeping a "Winning the Poo" food intake/elimination diary. Many of us have found it extremely helpful in determing which foods are bothering us.

Morning Nancy & Welcome!
Entocort would be a good move for you if you want to do meds. However, a lot of us with restricted diets have found solutions to holding this disease at bay.
Feel free to post on the main message board and you will definitely get more responses and something said just might help.
