Amen Joe,
I say that all the time. Just let one of our doctors jump into our skin for a spell. I guarantee they would jump right back out and run away as fast as possible.
Would be nice to see a GI doc with MC/LC join the board.

Hi again, everyone, and Happy New Year! I just wanted to say that perhaps MC is a lot more common than doctors think, because not all GI docs routinely do colonic biopsies, just the regular scope, where everything looks normal. I think it should be a regular part of the procedure, especially with severe diarrhea in a middle-aged person. Maybe they are trying to save money, but I think it should be routinely done. What do you all think???

I think that if they're going to do a colonoscopy for any reason, then yes, it should always include biopsy samples.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Littlemary,
I have always had biopsies taken during colonoscopies but it wasn't until this year that many were taken during my most recent scoping. I think the quantity procured, as well as falsely naming my problem as IBS over the years, contributed to my late diagnosis.

Welcome Mizzle, I'm so glad you found us. Now you aren't alone with this nasty disease and have all of the experience here to help.
I also have nausea and vomiting with an active flare. I followed Joe's advice and made a tea with fresh ginger...worked like a charm. I've also kept candied ginger on hand from time to time but all I had was fresh. I may just stay with that when I need to.
Chicken soup is your friend. I don't know about NZ but using organic chicken broth, fresh chicken and carrots makes a very good pot of soup that can be sipped with or without the meat and veggies as your tummy dictates.
I hope you're feeling better and your stressful situation has resolved itself.

hoosier1, I guess I was lucky, because my gi doc only did one random biopsy of my colon, and it came up positive on my first colonoscopy. I was always one of those people who said "I'm never having a colonoscopy, that is gross", until I got really sick 6 months later, and started going 20-30 times a day. My doc literally did every possible test on my poop, including cultures. Luckily we found out the cause. Everyone is not so lucky and go years wondering what is wrong.
I think biopsies should be standard procedure.
