Mags wrote:The Mayo Clinic over here just released some research about Zoloft (sertraline) and MC. It is named as a possible causative or aggravating factor for MC. If you suffer from depression please be super careful about steroids. They can cause manic episodes (no sleep, racing thoughts, etc.). Most doctors do not know this so I just tell them I am allergic. Be careful out there--make sure you get a proper diagnosis.
Hey Mags,

I am aware that Sertraline can cause MC as this is how I contracted it, I was diagnosed with depression in May 2010, the MC started in June 2010. So I'm aware of the issues and had fun explaining this all to my GP who was willing to listen to what I have been advised.

Thanks for the concern though.

Hi Naty,

You know, lucky me as well, I was on Zoloft several years ago for well over a year for a situational type of depression. I think my dosage was 75mg if that sounds about right. I recall when I started Zoloft I had massive D for about a week (which the doc said would go away... and back then, it did).

I think Zoloft helped me. My recollection is it numbed me to life... perhaps a little too much if memory serves.

Wouldn't it be great if, with what we all know now, we could all wind the clock back several years?

Hope your are feeling a little better.

Rich

P.S. Do you take any drugs like valium too?

Hi Rich,

Yes 75mg does sound about right I went between 50mg and 100mg of it. I didnt get any symptoms of MC at all, until the 6th week of taking it them BOOM hello BIG D! (This was before dosage was upped to 100mg aswell!)

The Zoloft did help me, but I was withdrawn from it quickly and I was numb to everything from then on due to denial of things, which finally came to a head the other night!

I would wind the clock back several months, to May 2010 thats when I started on it! Yet, I would never have gotten to know you guys and had such amazing support for my mental health problems too, so it feels like a blessing in disguise.

Things are a little better now, just need to sort out my university life now then i'm slowly making the steps to get back on track with stuff.

And can i plead ignorance to valium, what is it?

Naty.

Hi Naty,

I didn't like the numbness from Zoloft either. But after a while, it became the new me. I was also emotionless, said those around me. Not sure if that is good or bad. It just was.

Valium is a tranquilizer used to relieve anxiety and relax muscles. It is addictive but I find it helpful to use sparingly for nerve pain, discomfort, and of course, the occasional anxiety. It is in the same class as Ativan and Xanax.

I sure hope that Zoloft didn't cause my problems. But if it did, unfortunately, that is water under the bridge.

Rich
