Back problem

Post by Lucy »

Hi everyone,

Tonight I'm having nerve type pain in my back, about waist high, so I sure do hope I'm able to get my Mom up and down tonight.

Did put my sister on notice tonight, just in case, but sure hope Mom doesn't take off, and I not be able to chase her down the hall. What I'm hoping happens is that the muscles will relax after I lie down, and not tense up when I have to get up. Sometimes it works like that, and sometimes it doesn't.

Anyway, if you don't hear from me for a while, it may be cause I'm having to rest the back more, and not sit in a chair so much. Right now, I'm sitting in the transporter chair (wheelchair with small wheels) that we use to haul Mom around. It's kinda nice to walk behind cause the handles are tall, and I can lift myself up on those when walking as the back has difficulty bearing the whole wt of my body, especially right at first in the involved area.

OK, here goes nuttin'. I'm going to "hang up" here, try to unplug this telephone line so Mom won't trip over it, and "move on down the road" to the bed.

Do hope to be able to get back on here tomorrow night. Enjoy all the dietary things people are trying!

Yours, Luce

Luce,

Back trouble is no fun. Do you think you pulled a muscle lifting mom? If so, try to rest. However, if you think it might be sciatica (nerve pain) activity is best......especially stretching. It's time like these when we could sure use those NSAIDs, isn't it? Take care.

Love,

Polly

Please take care of yourself, Luce. I hope it will be a mild flare up and will soon heal. Back pain involving muscles is EXTREMELY....well....painful, but I'm sure you already know that!!

Thanks everyone!
So far, so good with the back.

This was one of the few nights that we've managed to actually sleep a long stretch without having nature call, OR come without calling, if you get my drift! Ha!

Anyway, not having to lift for that long gave the back a chance to rest, and fortunately, it wasn't stiff in the morning. I was verrrrry careful not to move to fast or twist around or anything that might cause a muscle to spasm, and took my time with getting Mom ready this morning.

We had a lunch date with the sis, and it all worked out well, especially since Mom was able to walk from the car to the table with the sitdown walker.

I'd pumped enough vasodilator into her to keep her from having severe BP drops, but think the batteries are out in the little wrist cuff, so couldn't actually measure what it was.

Even the new batteries I put in wouldn't work...ugh!! Everything happens at once sometimes, doesn't it. Now, I'm out of her vasodilator except for a few crumbs that the pill crusher thing always leaves when it's SUPPOSED to leave two halves. Anyone else have a pill that won't divide into two even parts. I thought that's why they scored em, but guess not!
It would cost us half as much if it would break evenly!!

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. Just thought I'd let you know why I wasn't around -- thought it might be longer for a while there. Probably shouldn't be sitting to long, though. Think I do best moving around, like Polly said, and then lying down on one side and the other with my knees curled up toward my torso a little.

Yep, I'm layin' off the NSAIDS, that's for sure! I'm even wondering if the antihistimines don't trigger the back problems sometimes cause one time I heard that drinking water can "puff up" the little cushions between the vertebrae as they're like sponges, so since antihistimines can dehydrate the body, couldn't they lead to those pads going flat, resulting in pressure on the nerves running through the spine?
Just my theory, but then why not?!!

Thanks again!

Luce,

You're silly - I read right through it and didn't even catch it! I was just glad you were doing better!

Keep on doing what you're doing - it seems to be helping!

LOL - don't blame 'ya - If we can't figure out what you are saying we are in BAD shape!!!

Glad you did better today with your back. I hope you manage NOT to hurt it again and it gets a chance to clear up. Back pain IS awful. Of course, any pain you have for a long time is awful. Hope your don't have any more for a while.

Here's hoping for a good nights  for you (and me too!!).
