An Update On Peggy

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Most newbies here won't recognize her, but of course, all of the founding members not only know her, but have a special place in their heart for her, and know that she has had a particularly tough time with MC, after achieving remission, and weaning off Asacol a time or two, and then having a relapse and discovering that it was no longer effective for her, and then not being able to consistently control her symptoms with Entocort. :sigh:

Her symptoms became so bad last year, that she had to take a break from work, but when the short-term disability period expired, she was still unable to return to work, so she filed for long-term disability last October. She has been really stressed over the fact that a ruling seemed to be taking forever, (which, of course, made her symptoms worse), but I just found out that her claim was finally approved, so now, hopefully, a little sunshine will be coming back into her life, and some of the stress will be fading away.

The part that some of us may find of interest, is the fact that the disability ruling was granted on the basis of her colitis, alone, and not for stress and/or chronic pain, (even though they were/are also a problem). So, even though many/most GI docs write MC off as "a little diarrhea, with a benign course", obviously it is a debilitating disease, just as we have always maintained. If it were not a debilitating disease, no insurance company in the world would approve a claim of that type.

Peggy gave me permission to post this to the board, of course, and I hope that some of us, who find it extremely difficult to go to work each day, because of overwhelming symptoms, may be able to benefit from this experience. And most of all, I hope that Peggy's quality of life will improve a lot, now what a huge load of stress has been lifted from her shoulders. Kudos to whoever approved her claim.

Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks for the update Tex. I have not had the pleasure of reading any of her posts but sounds like one of the fine founding members of this board.

Your right that's interesting that this 'benign' little condition can be ruled as a disability. Of course we all know how benign MC really is not.

Best wishes to Peggy hopefully the disability ruling will help give her some means to deal with MC.

Tex,

Wow. I've been wondering about Peg and so sorry to hear about this. Like you said, perhaps the disability grant will lift a stressful bundle of burdens off her for now and that, in itself, will be helpful. Yes, kudos to the kind human being that signed off on her request. MC sucks.

Sending lot's of love from Fergus Falls to Pegster!

I don't have the pleasure of knowing her but I am glad some of her stress is removed from her. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

This is for our pig-tailed Peggy. How I miss her on the board.

Glad to hear she got the disability verdict and boy do I know what it is to work every day for the long haul that I have had with this disease. Due to the disease I have not missed more than a couple of days of work over the course of 10+ years but it has been extremely difficult.

So happy that Peggy contacted you and all I can do is wish her well and let her know she has always been in my prayers and still do keep in contact with Momster on a weekly basis.

Love, Maggie

Pegster!

So sorry to learn of your continuing struggles but relieved to know that you were approved for disability.
I think of you often and have fond memories of the 2 times we met (Oregon and NY).

Lots of love,

Polly
