Tired and weak on entocort....

Post by Jess »

I wanted to start out by saying that I really find this site so helpful. I am not a huge fan a writing but I love to read! Reading about everyones experiences helps me so much. When I was diagnosed with Celiac I felt frustrated and alone. Now with having MC I do not have to feel that way because there are so many of you out there going though the same thing.

Now on to my question....I have been on entocort for about 30 days. My stomach has never been better. However, I am not sleeping well, having crazy dreams, feel so weak, and I am exhausted. I am having a hard time making it though my workouts. I typically go to the gym six days a week and was running and spinning all of the time. Even when I felt awful with MC symptoms it did not change my energy level. I work very hard to live a healthy lifestyle and I just want to feel the benefits...
I am wondering if anyone else has felt like this? I want to call my doctor and have him switch me to something else...I am also afraid that if I do that my stomach will get worse. I am sick of trading one problem for another. Is entocort the only way?
I should add that I have been gluten and dairy free before I was ever diagnosed wit MC.

Hi Jess,

:flowersmiley:

As is always said, we are all different.

I have been on entocort for just over a year and a half. My experience is that I have very gradually got energy back as my BMs improved (they are not perfect), but still am below par on energy. When I get a flare then I definitely get more fatigue.

I still sleep pretty well (at least an average of 8hrs). And I do have some crazy dreams (coming in and out of sleep in the mornings).

Best wishes and hope you find the best solution for you.

P.S. Actually I like my dreams....they are great "entertainment" ...... as good as any feature film.....this morning I was the "leader" of the resistance against some despotic regime in some mythical place......very exciting and glamorous. :???:

Hi Jess,

Entocort is a steroid and steroids are notirious for messing with sleep, at least at first. I took a sleep aid at first, but I don't need it anymore.

Welcome to the board. This is a great group of potty people!

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jess,
I am fairly similar to you..I am celiac and recently diagnosed with Lymphocytic colitis. I started my Entocort yesterday and am trying very hard to not get stressed/nervous awaiting any possible side effects. I have also started going DF only by a few days. I will keep you posted on my energy level as i am on the steroid. Although I am on my second day th eonly thing i feel is a tad dizzy..

Jess,

Welcome to the board.

It's possible to control your symptoms without any meds at all, if you fine-tune your diet to eliminate all your food sensitivities. Soy is the next most likely candidate, since about half of us here are sensitive to it. Also, minimizing fiber in the diet is necessary, until the gut has time to heal, since fiber irritates the gut enough to perpetuate a reaction, for most of us.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Ant,

I find the Entecort dreams to be quite entertaining too. In fact, I had one, I recall, where I was actually working in my dream. That was a bummer because when I awoke, I was already tired of working for the day.

But some of the dreams were (are) wild, to say the least. My mind had never been so active during rest.

MC just makes one exhausted. I think it is because although you feel better, your colon is still sick. Stay on the Entocort and eventually you will get better.

Also, I have to take a pill for sleep, as the Entocort does keep me awake.

Good luck,
