IDream--

I have had my struggles too with MH issues. My psychiatrist, who is not your everyday shrink, has done extensive research on the issue of SSRI's and MC and has come to the conclusion that not ALL SSRI's are associated with MC. Only Zoloft (sertraline) and those in the Zoloft family are definitely to be avoided. These include Celexa, Lexapro, and a couple of others I can't remember right now. He is exceptional in many ways as he does not associated with the drug companies; plus he has a foundation that supports research into new mental health medications and studies. He is even mentioned in the forward to "Demystifying Psychiatry"; one of the latest books published on mental health. Look it up on Amazon if you want to.

What happens when we go off a medication that previously worked for us, is that it tends not to work as well when we try to go back on it. This has been proven in medical studies, and I can tell you personally that it happened to me. I went off Zoloft out of concern for the MC and almost ended up in the hospital. I tried Paxil, and it only made things worse. I had to go back on Zoloft.

I have been okay, but just okay, never happy. I tried Seroquel, but almost ended up in the ER because of side effects. Last week, I gave Prozac a try, and I have never felt better. My stomach has settled down, I feel pretty again, and I actually had a conversation with someone at the store!!

Never give up. Never. If your doc is not cooperative, get another one.

Try an SNRI or a mood stabilizer. Make sure your meds don't contain lactose or gluten. Also be aware that some meds, including SSRI's have temporary side effects that will go away soon and can be managed with other meds, like Lomotil and Phenergan.

I know it is hard right now. It may feel impossible when it's even hard to get out of bed to take a bath. Please know that you are in my prayers right now.

Lots of love,

Mags

I Dream,

Please make that doctor's appointment and wanted to let you know you are in my prayers. Even if the light at the end of the tunnel is a train go for it and catch it.

Love, Maggie

IDream, I hope things get better for you soon. I used to let doctors prescribe antidepressants for me years ago for Fibromyalgia since it helps some people with pain and sleep. None of them ever helped the pain, but one helped me sleep (I've since found better alternatives). Mostly they either caused depression or put me in such a fog that I was worthless (or both), so I know what a roller coaster it can be. Hang in there!

Idream,

Didn't you say in another post that you were also being prescribed Elavil recently? I wonder if you are having some interaction? What is your dosage on Elavil?

I've been on Paxil, Effexor, Elavil, Zoloft, and Lexapro over the years. Zoloft, as I recall, gave me massive D for the first few weeks. I think now, it would do me in. Effexor I could not tolerate mentally, nor Lexapro. But Evavil, at the low dose for pain showed promise (except for the grogginess... but no drug is w/o side effects).

Thinking about you and hoping you find peace.

The doctor prescribed the elavil to me yesterday at my appointment. Got the script filled and was reading the paper insert that comes with it, and it said "do not take if you have hyperthyroidism." Well, I have graves disease which is hyperthyroidism. So I called my thryoid doctor and he said not to take it.
So here I have one doctor telling me one thing, and another doctor telling me different. And now the thyroid doctor wants me to come in on Monday.
I dont know what to do.

See your thyroid doctor on Monday. Maybe he has a better suggestion.
