Does anyone else have decreased urine output?

Post by IDreamInColor »

We sure do talk about number 2 alot, can we talk about number 1 too? LOL
I'm curious if anyone else with MC also has decreased urine output. It seems all the water I drink goes thru the bowels instead of the bladder.
I drink water all day long, and I'm amazed at how little output I have. Seriously I can drink a glass of water before bed, and in the morning I only put out about 2 tablespoons. I drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, and about 3 more glasses throughout the day (12-16 oz each), including one at bedtime, and NOT have to go for hours and hours, and when I do it's always a very small amount, the small amount of output is definately not caused from dehydration.
Is this common with MC? Why do we have more water in our bowels instead of our bladder? Or is it just me?

I don't recognize this, but if you still have massive D, I looks normal to me, you loose more water through your bowels.

That's the thing, the tiny urine output doesn't seem to be better when the D is under control, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

See the post at the link below, for an explanation. Actually, though, the low bladder output is indeed due to dehydration. That's why we have to drink so much water during a flare, (if you weren't dehydrated, you would have normal bladder output.

Urine output

Post by tooolgrl »

I have a friend with Crohns and she is always telling me to "keep my pee clear"!! It is hard to get enough liquid in during a flare for me. I drink 2 liters of water a day but I also get very nauseated while I am sick so it is hard to keep proper nourishment in..

Hi Sandra,

Welcome! I see that this was your first post, so it's good to see you posting. I usually had a serious nausea problem when I was reacting, too.

Dear I dream

I do not recall having a particular problem of decreased urine output. Perhaps when going through prolonged watery D I did (but my worry was on number 2 rather than number 1 at that time).

Dear Sandra

Welcome from the "other side of the world" :flowersmiley:

:wave: Hi Sandra! Welcome!! I totally agree with your friend about the clear output. Two liters is not very much water. I drink that before breakfast, frankly. Here is a recipe for a homemade electrolyte solution that you can sip on that should not upset your stomach and would help with dehydration :

Ingredients:

* 2 quarts water
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 7 Tablespoons sugar
* 1 packet sugar-free, dye-free Kool-Aid
* 1/2 teaspoon salt substitute

Directions:

The salt substitute and Kool-Aid are optional. Store in the refrigerator. You can freeze this into ice cubes.

IDream, I would say that you probably should be drinking more water. I drink about 96 oz. a day, and still sometimes my output is not clear.

Oops! Sorry, Sandra! I just realized that 2 liters is more like 2 quarts than 2 pints. :oops: Blame it on being old enough to be a late-comer to the metric system in the US. That is a goodly amount of liquid. :grin:
