MY MRT Results - verrrrry interesting!

Discussions can be posted here about mediator release testing (MRT), as offered by Oxford Biological Technologies, in conjunction with the LEAP program, which is claimed to determine a relative level of sensitivity to various foods and chemicals by measuring an increase in the ratio of liquids to solids in a blood sample that has been exposed to a specific allergen.

I looked up Sunbutter and found this:

Ingredients
Sunflower Seed, Dehydrated Cane Juice, Salt, And Natural Mixed Tocopherols To Preserve Freshness. Allergy Information: Made On Equipment That Processes Soybeans. Processed In A Peanut Free And Tree Nut Free Facility.

What do you think? I may be over cautious right now, but that worries me.

I used to eat Sunbutter, but gave it up for that very reason. I wasn't sure if it was adding to my continuing issues.

Here's something else that bothers me. I've been emailing lots of companies about lipsticks I can use in my ongoing search for a gluten and soy free lipstick. The ingredient Tocopherols in the Sunbutter list stood out for me and I was sure I had read it recently. Here's what one beauty product company said about their lipstick:

The Tocopherol (Vitamin E) used in our Lip Balms and Glosses is derived from Soy.

Coupled with the fact that they make this on equipment that processes soy makes me wonder all the more.

BTW, I did find lipstick that is both gluten and soy free if anyone is interested. :girl:

I've not had a problem with Sunbutter and I am soy sensitive but maybe not as sensitive as some others. Like GF products produced in a plant where wheat products are also made, it is a risk.

My question to the company was: Can you please tell me if all of your products are gluten, soy, and fragrance free?

Their response was:

Hey Arlene,

Thank you for your email and interest in Afterglow.

Yes, all of our products are Gluten and Soy Free.

They are also fragrance free with the exception of the Lavender Brush Cleanser and the Lip Soothers in Coo, Hush, and Zen.

Solace is the designated fragrance-free Lip Soother.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions!

Call us at 1.866.630.4569 Monday-Friday from 9:30am – 6:00pm EST for any questions or to place an order. You may also place your order online at www.afterglowcosmetics.com.

I hope all you gals who've LONGED for a safe lipstick to wear will check it out. I ordered the Solace fragrance-free lip smoother. I'll be ordering some lipsticks next. Also, as per similar correspondence with Clinique, "- Almost Lipstick - Does not contain gluten or soy. http://www.clinique.com/templates/produ ... ID=PROD536 I plan to return my gluten and soy-filled lipsticks to Clinque's counter and exchange them for the product listed above. May all your beauty dreams come true!

Arlene,

Very interesting. Thanks for bringing it up. Yes, I did notice all of those ingredients in the Sunbutter, but I seem to be OK with it. I am not sensitive to cane sugar, although I am to soy. And I didn't know that about lipstick.

Hugs,

Polly

Hmmmmmmmmm Arlene,

I'm so glad you brought up the Sunbutter ingredients. In thinking more about it and reviewing the food/poop diary I have been keeping now for 6 days as part of phase I of the
process, I think I may be reacting to the Sunbutter! It is the only processed food I have eaten in 6 days.
I was thinking it was something else I was reacting to, but it may be the soy in the product. Stay tuned for further developments.......... Thanks.

Polly

Dear Polly,

Many thanks for the info on testing logistics. Looks like I will have to wait till in UK.

Some comments here about company feedback remind me that I am p***d off with Unilever. About 3 months ago I went into a major flare and am trying to work out an ingredients trigger. Here is my latest UNANSWERED email to them....with email trail below.
From: Anthony
Subject: Re: Thank you for your message

To: UnileverTeam@unilever.com

There has still been no reply to this. For your reference I have copied the original note sent on 23rd October last year.

For me and my doctor this is a serious health issue. The only way I can get off taking immune suppressant drugs is to work out exactly what food ingredients I react to. In addition to gluten, diary and eggs, soy, guar gum or similar may also have caused my relapse of symptoms. Please let me know all the ingredients in Heartbrand/Walls Green Tea Sorbet.

Regards

Dear Sir/Madam

I cannot find a care line for Thailand so am writing to you instead. I would like to eat your Heartbrand/Walls Green Tea Sorbet, but need to know the ingredients first since I am intolerant to gluten, diary and egg. Is your Green Tea product free of these ingredients in the Sorbet?

Kind regards
