These days I'll remember.

Post by Delta »

I'll remember them for many things, the sights I've seen, the time spent with those you love, being in the presence of God's creations. These are the days, each one filled with gratitude, each and every one of them I'm thankful for. These are some of my memories................

Dan,

That's my kind of scenics - love that rugged beauty. Absolutely breathtaking.

Elk in California? For some strange reason, I had never even thought of CA as a place to see elk.

That's an incredible shot of Alcatraz island. The hazy shroud, the highlights on the water, the sepia tone - everything is absolutely perfect. You are quite an artist.

Thanks for sharing,
Tex

Tex,
We actually have all three elk, Tule, Roosevelt and the Rocky Mountain. Of course getting a tag is a whole other story. But truthfully the numbers are low so protecting them I can understand. The photo's of elk are from Pt. Reyes National Seashore. It's astonishing to find such beautiful wild creatures just 45 min drive accross the Golden Gate from San Francisco. California has more than it's share of wingnuts believe me, but that shouldn't stop anyone from visiting such a unique place. Get out of the cities and in the country and you will find the same sorts of "salt of the earth people" you find in just about every state. You have an open invitation, a guest bedroom and a more than willing guide should you ever make it to the "left" coast  Rita needs a break, I drug her up and down the state the past two months, I was telling her about a hike I wanted to take up in Lassen National Pk a few nights ago, she said talk to me in 2011. Oh well I am a mapaholic, so my maps, daydreams and the upcoming hunting seasons will have to tide me over for a while.

I appreciate that kind offer, and I'll certainly keep it in mind. I keep thinking that some day, I'm going to buy a motor home, and just pull up stakes and tour the country, trying to take in as many interesting sights as I can, without worrying about a carefully planned itinerary.

Well, I didn't think that Hollywood defined the mindset of the entire state, but I'm glad to see that you confirmed my suspicions. Texas is similar - as long as one avoids Austin, and a few other spots, the people one encounters are super, and I'm sure that's true for virtually every state.

I just hope that I can get my butt in gear before I get too old to enjoy the trip.

Cash seems to take his work quite seriously.

I recognize the chukars and ringneck, but is that a sage grouse on the right?

Thanks for the great photos of Cash hard at work.

So those are chukars. Hi Delta! I live in WA state, on the north bank of the Columbia River in the Portland metro area. I don't know if this is what you meant, talking about the wildlife so close to SF, but it is surprising how the wildlife has adapted to the presence of humans. Here, the ospreys build nests in the cell towers, and even living in town I will hear the scream of bald eagles on occasion in the summer. Cougars and black bears are prevalent, and lots and lots of deer. Elk,too, but not so much, which is a good thing for drivers (my husband drives at night). It's harder to survive hitting an elk than a deer.

Thanks for the gorgeous photos!
