Hi guys!Entocourt and Suggestions

Post by laurenla520 »

Hi Everyone, haven't been on the board in a while, been extremely busy but nice to be back on with you all, especially during times when its not going so good and just need some people that understand. Well as kind of an update the asacol wasnt doing much of anything, switched to entocourt a few days ago and really didnt do much either?? I was really banking on that. I started a job as car sales woman and second day had to use the restroom probably 5 or 6 diff times and it was still soft unformed stools. Today I took an immodium, seemed to help, but yikes still gas.So embarassing. Does entocourt take more time to work typically? Any hope if that doesn't work? What the heck do i do, i really have changed my eating habits completely, but in times when I am just desperate to be "normal" won't work. Anyways thanks for letting me vent

Entocort can take a few weeks to work. It seems to be an individual thing on when it becomes effective, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. I think it took about 2 weeks for me to notice an improvement when I first took it. Be patient and do what you're doing with the immodium to help with things until it starts to help you. Make sure you're sticking with the diet also. If you don't have any side effects, it can be an amazing drug to help you heal.

I agree with JoAnn

It took me quite a few weeks for Entocort to "kick in" enough to go out without fear. And that was only AFTER also being GF, DF, SF, egg free and nightshade free.....

I think to be BM "Norman" you may not be able to be "normal" in everything you eat. But in the end it is "Norman" that is more important for social and body health.

It took 3-4 weeks for Entocort to kick in for me. Once it did, things were much better. It's good to read that you are also changing your diet, because that's the long-term solution for MC.

For me a 9mg / day dose took about 3 weeks to start to see a difference. During that time I was also eating GF/SF/DF. These meds do take a while to 'kick in'

It won't work immediately. It didn't improve or worsen my BMs the first few weeks I was on it.

It doesn't heal your gut, it reduces or suppresses the inflammation. Dietary changes are what heal the gut, because that is what is causing the inflammation. If someone doesn't make any changes to their diet, they will go back to having problems within weeks of stopping the Entocort. That's why most of us focus all of our attention on figuring out our food intolerances. We keep food diaries (called "Winning the Pooh") and make note of every BM and everything we eat so that we can see which foods are giving us problems.

Give it a few more weeks; it should relieve your symptoms eventually.
