And by heart disease I'm talking about strokes, heart attacks, Atherosclerosis, etc.

My moms side of the family has at least 6 or so that I know of.

Dads side has more cancer, but no heart disease that I know of.

Are you thinking of the inflammation issue which is now thought to underlie heart disease and MC?

Well, it might very well be related, but I mentioned it in another thread. Specifically related to the CD1d proteins being found in lower numbers in folks with MC. From what I've read thus far it appears that depletion of this protein along with another can cause lipid metabolism issues and can lead to heart disease.

And also as I found this protein is also involved in sensing glycolipids, basically the same thing found in the outer layer of bacteria, virus, and fungi.

And supposedly they were able to cause Atherosclerosis in rats who had low numbers of this CD1d by intoducing bacteria (well injecting it).

Also, depletion of CD1d makes us more likely to be affected by certain pathogens but also less likely to be affected by others.

Mike Myself and sister have aryrthmias (spelling I know) sister had had strokes, Father had enlarged heart many mini strokes and died of a stroke. Mother had arthrmia as well, Both parents had high blood pressure. I do not.

I voted yes... By both

Father´s side (grandfather): sudden death
Father: Heart attack (though still alive)
My uncle: stroke

Mother´s side
my Grandfather: artherosclerosis (death)
my Uncle: stroke
Another Uncle: Heart & Lungs problem...

Regarding myself... It does not help having a low bp and a high heart rate at rest... My heart is beating every day as if I am running a marathon... for every single thing I am doing (taking a shower, doing homework, ...)

Sure do!! Dad had a heart attack....Mom had heart failure and mitral valve regurgitation ....I have PSVT and irregular heart beat, mitral valve regurgitation and now heart failure....hmmmmm

Anyone know what the statistics might be for the general population? Seems kindof high here, but given that I said relatives it multiplies this statistic out some.

A study of congenital heart disease in Canada, (where healthcare access is universal), showed a prevalence of less than 1 % for adults, (o.4 %), in the year 2000.

A 1998 study in Rotterdam, showed an overall prevalence of heart failure of 3.9 %.

Mom had quadruple bypass. Now age 92.

Dad had a pacemaker. He died some years ago at age 92.

They were 9+ years apart in age.

Yep...runs rapmant !! Father died of a heart attack after 2 by pass surgeries, my mother had a valve problem, and also a enlarged heart...she passed away due to congestive heart faiure

I have a heart murmur. It was discovered when I was 7. My grandmother had congestive heart failure. My uncle died from a heart attack. My father had a heart attack. He suffered from mini-strokes and is on medications for it. My dad's grandparents all died from heart related problems. My father's dad died from heart problems.

Hi,

I was searching the forum for "murmur", and came across this poll/discussion.

All my female ancestors on my mother's side (mom, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma) died of a massive heart attack between the age of 64 and 68 with no prior signals.

So, since I'm the only known female on my mother's side in direct line that has lived to be 69, I thought I would check my heart. My GP found that I have a murmur heart, so now I will be sent to a heart specialist.

My GP thought that this was probably quite harmless, but it's okay to check it out. Now that I've been reading about the phenomenom I see that heart murmurs also could be a sign of bacteria in the pericardium.

I hope it's nothing serious, I have just started enjoying feeling "normal" again.

Does anyone know if there is a link between MC and heart disease, or vice versa?
