Xifaxan - anyone tried it? I'm on it

Post by tcorbett »

Hello All,

I have not been on this board for a while. I hope all is well with you folks!

My GI has now put me on Xifaxan - I take it 3x a day. I am still on Apriso. I feel very bloated. My D has not stopped. I was eating way too much dairy for a while that I'm sure that hasn't helped.

I had been trying the SCD diet - but I just couldn't keep up with it - I was feeling so winded and tired. I am, as of today, taking out all the foods that showed up 2yrs ago on my food allergy tests. The list is long - lots of veggies, eggs unfortunately. I am also pulling out dairy. Not to mention I'm gluten free too. So, the eating has not been too fun. I'm gaining weight and I look almost pregnant - or pretty pregnant - LOL!

Will this get better? Or am I in this for the next week and a half?

Thanks

Hi Theresa,

Welcome back. 2 or 3 members have tried rifaximin, and one member even tried it twice, because his GI doctor wouldn't believe that it didn't work, the first time.

At far as I am aware, though, no one here who has tried it, has reported any significant benefits from it. It's a very expensive antibiotic, and it comes highly recommended, but it just doesn't seem to help for MC.

I believe that you're on the right track with diet changes. In the long run, that seems to be the most effective option.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
