An unexpected LEAP success story

Discussions can be posted here about mediator release testing (MRT), as offered by Oxford Biological Technologies, in conjunction with the LEAP program, which is claimed to determine a relative level of sensitivity to various foods and chemicals by measuring an increase in the ratio of liquids to solids in a blood sample that has been exposed to a specific allergen.

An unexpected LEAP success story

Post by Polly »

Hi All,

TA DAAAAAAA!

Trumpet fanfare and drum roll please! Yesterday I tested eggs, and I did fine! WAHOO! Can't believe it. I am so excited, because they are such a quick, easy source of nutrition and I have missed them mucho during the past 3 years.

They were the last food I had eliminated, but looking back, I guess I had trouble with them because I was unknowingly eating so many other foods I was reacting to - tomatoes, celery, white potatoes, etc. I guess there must be a cumulative (dose) effect that makes some foods (like eggs) harder to digest.

Just HAD to share this with you. No one else could appreciate how much this means when you have multiple sensitivities. I am gobsmacked, to quote our Aussie friends!

Hugs,

Polly

P.S. To be as safe as possible, I drove out to a free-range farm on Sun. to buy fresh, "uncoated" eggs.

That's great news!!! Your journey with LEAP is showing how hard it is to identify the culprit - sometimes safe foods are eliminated. LEAP is difficult in that you must be diligent about testing each food and be willing to be very limited in choices for a while. I'm so glad it is working for you!!

Wow..... that is great!!

Did enterolabs indicate you had intolerance to eggs? I would love to hope that one day I could have them back on the menu.

Best, ant

Hi Ant!

No, when I originally got MC, enterolab was not yet testing for eggs. I determined it on my own, but it was the last food I eliminated, so maybe it wasn't was reactive as the other foods. But I do remember having quite a reaction, which was worsening over time - sour stomach; sulfur burping/gas; fairly explosive, urgent, smelly D when I ate eggs. Not a pretty picture, LOL!

If I can add eggs back in, there is hope for you, too. I never thought I'd be able to. Exciting, isn't it?

Love,

Polly

Great news Polly - quite a victory indeed and cause for celebration  :hungry: !!!

Love,
Kari

P.S. I tested negative for eggs at Enterolab, but highly reactive by MRT. The MRT test pretty much cofirmed my suspicion, and I had already eliminated them when I got the results.

Way to go Polly. Any time we can add a food back in it's a victory. I am so glad the LEAP plan is working for you.

Polly,

That is great news!!!! I am wondering if you can have them on a regular basis or only occasionally...like on a rotational basis? Were they on your yellow or high green list?

Pat,

I checked Polly's results, and eggs didn't test reactive for her.

I tested reactive to them both on the MRT test and on the Enterolab test. My experience with them tells me that the tests are accurate. I don't believe I'll be able to eat them anymore. I'm sure that my egg intolerance is related to my chicken intolerance, which tested 3.0 on the MRT test (egg was about 2.3).

Your situation is different. You tested moderately reactive on MRT, but negative on Enterolab. You also didn't test reactive to any meats or poultry. I wonder if you might be able to eat eggs in small quantities on a rotating basis again someday?

Hi Pat and Gloria and all,

Eggs tested very high green for me (less than 1 mm from yellow - LOL), which is why I waited more than a month to test them. I tested at exactly the same level for chicken and am doing OK with it, too.

Re how frequently to eat them, I think that I will be rotating all of my safe foods most of the time into the future in order to minimize my exposures. I will definitely avoid all of my 35 yellow/red foods for a least 6 mo., because I really think the reason I am feeling so terrific is because I am not being exposed to them. After that I may try to add back in a few favorites, but some I may just give up forever. Of course, I still will eat no grains other than rice, and no dairy, soy and other legumes, or yeast.

Thanks to all for sharing in my excitement!

Oh, Polly, I am very excited for you! How wonderful it would be to be able to eat eggs again! Although I don't miss them hugely in their plain cooked form, I find so many foods that otherwise would be oK for me, have eggs in them. You know you find something that is DF, GF, Sf and there it is, eggs.. And home GF baking is especially hard without them.

Joy, oh, Joy! You so deserve this!!!
