Theresa,
So sorry you are having so much trouble. I, too, have multiple intolerances. The only way I have been able to figure them out is with testing. I had Enterolab testing, fructose malabsorption hydrogen breath test, and the MRT. With the help of my dietician, which happens to be Mary Beth since I live in her state, I am slowly, very slowly making progress. Go to www.nowleap.com and check it out. I think it is pretty accurate. It still involves some trial and error but with the help of a leap trained registered dietician. I also had other tests: lactose intolerance, small intestine bacterial overgrowth and parasite. Those last three were negative. Hang in there and keep trying, don't give up.

P.S. There was a former membe , Mike, who took Xifaxin and it helped him so much that he no longer comes on here. You should know pretty much right away if it is going to help or not. Did you have the SIBO breath test?
I feel so overwhelmed... I don't know where to turn...

For me, easy to digest soothing foods are as follows: -
apple and blackcurrent juice (clear no fibre and good for Vit C) try it 2/3 juice 1/3 water so it is not too strong on your stomach
Gooey rice,
this can be made sweet with cinnamon and maple syrup or
savoury using stock to cook it.
Gooey rice means cooking the rice with a bit extra water so at the end of the cooking process it has extra liquid - DO NOT strain or rinse, the rice liquid is fantastic for soothing gut lining.
when it is ready i stir an egg through the mix so that the egg just cooks
banana's again mash or make sure you chew it well, have small portions of this
lots of water
having small meals about 6 times a day,
the other meal i have is fresh salmon well cooked with gooey rice. salmon is easy for the body to digest.
hope this helps

Are you sure? I'm not aware that he ever resolved anything. Mike was always trying all sorts of treatments, and he usually reported that almost everything seemed to help initially, but I don't recall ever seeing a long-term report that he had ever resolved anything. For example, he kept taking antibiotics over and over, with mixed results. This old thread is a good example. Below is a post from page 2 of a 5-page thread. :Pat wrote:There was a former membe , Mike, who took Xifaxin and it helped him so much that he no longer comes on here.
By page 3, he was repeating the antibiotic treatment with a double dose. If you read the entire thread, you'll see what I mean.Ok, can't remember exactly where I left off. But I've had a course of Neomycin, then Rifaxmin, and then Neomycin again and now I'm on a small does of Erythromycin to help with motility. I'd have to say for the most part I feel better, but still have episodes and sporadic D/loose stools.
I'm going in for another SIBO test as he wants to check that again before we do another colonoscopy. And he'll do an endoscopy and biopsy at the same time. Not really looking forward to that, but should be interesting to see if there is still any inflamation.
He says the majority of patients he has with MC that it will burn out after some period of time.
Regardless, I'm now working on the mental aspect of not letting my symptoms rule my life. I have a very good book to recommend on this topic that seems to be helping me out in this regard as well as seeing a counselor too.
I was really hopefull that this was the solution, and it seems to have helped, but something's still amiss.
Thanks,
Mike

Is this the Mike that you're referring to? I really don't believe that he stopped posting because he resolved his issues by taking Xifaxin, but I could be wrong, obviously.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Yes, the low residue diet is the goal initially, although you have primarily to avoid foods you react to. My mainstay is fish, meat, chicken, eggs, rice and millet flakes, plus bananas and apples (both boiled) and a bit of squash soup and some boiled carrots. I eat millet flakes boiled in water with a banana for breakfast, stock with meat, chicken and carrots ( if you can blend it it is better) for lunch, and steamed salmon with some rice or again millet flakes for dinner. If I feel hungry during the day, I eat some Italian Prosciutto Crudo with corn cakes. The way to go, is to start with just 2 or 3 safest foods, and then add one at a time.
For bladder infection, instead of taking drugs, take D Mannose, - there is a brand "NOW" 3x1 capsule for the first 3 days and then 1 a day till you feel ok. It is a simple sugar and has no side effects. You can read about it in the forum if you search for "mannose".
