Surprising outcome from my colonoscopy

I am in shock......in the best possible way! 10 years ago I was diagnosed with collagenous colitis.

I just had a colonoscopy on Monday and my doctor called with results from the biopsy and NO findings of any form of microscopic colitis. WoW! I thought this was going to be a lifetime ordeal. AMAZING! I don't even know what to think! I am speechless to say the least. Any feelings, thoughts, etc anyone can provide? I just can't believe it. I really, really, really have to wonder if this wasn't related to my thyroid in some way or form.

Polly recently had a colonoscopy and it showed no signs of MC, too. But she had a big relapse afterward and I believe she attributes it to stress and the prep solution. I don't think she feels that she can let her guard down as a result of the colonoscopy. She's still watching her diet very carefully. Are you still watching yours?

Yes, I'm curious too. Have you been on a restricted diet for a long time? Are you gf/df or sf? Do you have normans all the time? Do you experience any MC symptoms? Do tell!!

It's always good to see an update from you.

Congratulations!

My thoughts? Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

If you've been faithfully following a GF diet, then that is the reason why the mucosal histoligy of your colon has returned to normal. If you abandon the diet, the symptoms will almost surely return. If you haven't been following the diet, then it's because all IBD's are subject to occasional periods of spontaneous remission, though they seem to be a lot less common with MC, than for the other IBDs.

It's not impossible that even a spontaneous remission could last forever, and if you're experiencing a spontaneous remission, I would suggest that you assume that it will last forever, and live your life accordingly. Please don't feel devastated, though, if it should return, some day.

Morning Lori and CONGRATULATIONS!

What an upturn and hope for so many of us since both you and Polly have had similar results on a colonoscopy and just about at the same time period from diagnosis to now. Since I am on that 10 year time maybe I should go get a colonoscopy - NOT!

I would venture to say if it was my case I would stick with the diet that got you to this diagnosis and not look a gift horse in the mouth - as Tex mentioned.

That is very good news. I'm very curious how you decide to proceed. As Gloria mentioned, Polly had the same no-MC result after her last colonoscopy. This disease is very surprising at times. I'm not sure how I would proceed myself.

Anyway, enjoy your reprieve. It's wonderful that you have no more symptoms and I wish the absolute best for you.

wow! that is very exciting news. Please do tell us how u did it.....I hope the Doc took biopsis's all over your colon. Please take it slow when/if you return to eating the Good stuff! I am so jealous!
