Joe and Oz, a perfect combination!

Let us know more when you can, please.

Joe,

Sounds like a great adventure to me. One that I'm sure you would enjoy.

Have you looked into the requirements for taking Nurse Nestle with you? Or would you be willing - or able - to leave her behind?

Well Joe, why not, language won't be a problem (I am sure aussie slang is much easier to learn than Arabic) and as we have learned from Gabes down under is perfect country for GF,DF,SF and whatever free diet.

Do you have any plans? But of course you can only go when they let nurse nestle in too.

Harma- Best of luck to you. It sounds like everything is coming together for you and it is nice to hear about your relationship with your parents and your escape plan.

Joe- How exciting! I'm envious too. I haven't made it to Oz but it is on my bucket list. As Harma mentioned, it sounds like the closest place to perfection as an MC'er can find with regard to our diet. I'll join everyone in patiently waiting for the details. :hyper:

Well I was hoping to keep this quiet a bit longer, but I just could not wait. In the 90's I made many trips to Australia while developing their border security system based around a product I patented around that same time called BorderGuard. During these trips I increasingly liked the idea of retiring there someday.

During this last summer I had to pick a city to give a lecture on a paper that I had recently published, and thought it would be great to get back to Australia, as my last trip was in 1999. I noticed Brisbane on the lecture schedule and thought that would be a great city to visit, and I would have the chance to meet another PP member while in town.

The way the schedule worked out I could not make it for the main conference but the invitation was extended to me to be a guest lecturer at Queensland University at the Saint Lucia campus in Brisbane. The lecture was great, and there was an unusually long QA session at the end with several of the department heads. It turns out it was a job interview (of sorts) that I just did not know about at the time. In early October I received a call and subsequent job offer as a assistant professor in their physics department mainly dealing with photonics. I will mostly be involved in research, but will have teaching duties from time to time.

As this was early in my plans for Oz, I did take a few months of pondering and countless questions to Gabes about working and living in Australia.

Recently I have accepted the offer, and will be traveling there in April to finalise paperwork and begin looking at housing, meet with various QU personnel and do a little more sightseeing etc. I will have one other trip there most likely in late June to setup housing, then begin the process of moving hopefully by late July

Yes Nestle can come, but will have to go through the 30 day quarantine

As mentioned it is an excellent location for people with MC, I have found the local stores and restaurants very GF/SF tolerant and the local citizens very MC friendly.

I do have mounds of paperwork to complete for both Oz and the US

Well that's the Aussie odyssey in a nutshell.

Harma as far as the language issue, I have been informed by several locals that my English will require some work... I am glad its not Arabic, English is tough enough (you are brave)

Joe this excellent news, I am so happy for you and how amazing that your MC can be helpful in making the choice to go down under (I mean, having MC, finding this board, getting to know Gabes and so on), isn't life full of surprises.

I hope this will be a great new future for you and of course nurse nestle, you should prepare her that this may have been her last winter with real snow. What also means no more shoe's. But maybe you can buy her off with promising her gucci sun glasses and a prada bikini.

What a terrific opportunity - I can't believe the timing and the coincidence. It is surely meant to be.

How exciting for both of you! It is inspiring to read of how dreams can be achieved through determination! It is also a delight to know that you can show others on this board how you can live with MC and have a wonderful, active life!

My hat is off to both of you! I will anxiously await further updates from both of you.

Hugs,
Mars

You know, Joe, when you first mentioned that you were considering a move, something told me that you were planning to move to Australia, but it seemed to be such a radical thought, at the time, that I was embarrassed to post it. Apparently my intuition was right.

Congratulations! I'm sure it will be an excellent career move.
