Asked GI for Entecort

Post by m »

I just called my GI doctor and left a message asking him to prescribe Entecort for me for this flare up. Last year when I went to see him for the first time I discussed how he felt about prescribing over the phone for occasions just like this and he said he was okay with it. We'll see. If he does prescribe, I'll only take it as a last resort. If you've taken it before, let me know what to watch out for and if I should take it with food.
thanks,
m

Hi M...I am not an expert on Entocort, but I have tolerated it very well. I usually take it in the morning with my other meds....I eat breakfast at work about an hour later. I don't know if I should be taking it on an empty stomach....guess I should read the directions. I have had no side effects and it started working for me within 3 days. It can cause bone loss, and I had a bone density test last week, but haven't gotten the results yet.

Good luck....Hope it helps....JJ

I also had good luck with Entocort. I'd take it again if I really needed to.

Hope the :doctor: doesn't give you a hard time. Let us know, OK.

Shirley,
Did you have an 8 week course and the taper off? Did you have refractory symptoms? It says that nausea is one of the side effects. I really hope it isn't for me because that's my main symptom already.

JJ-are you on a maintenance dose, if you don't mind me asking? I'm hoping that I can take this short term and then go off. I just need something so i can go back to work.

thanks,
m

I was on Entocort short term and it worked wonders. I took it in the morning on an empty stomach and had no problems. I, actually, did two short term stints (less than 8 weeks) and am now trying to re-instate the Asacol (again!). I had no problems with nausea. At first I took 6mg per day and within ten days dropped that to 3mg per day. Then I started taking 3mg every two days, then three, then none.

Melissa,

I had good luck with Entocort. It started working for me quickly and stopped the D altogether and muscle and joint pain. I took it for 6 months and the only side effect I noticed was bruising.

Based on how you have been feeling it seems like a good idea. Quite sure it might help you through this rough spell.

I'm so sorry to hear your so down at the moment. Life just sucks, sometimes. Keeping you in our prayers here.

Love,
Joanna

Actually, I was on it about 3 months and yes, I did taper off gradually.
I didn't notice any major symptoms that I didn't already have from taking Prednisone. That stuff messed me up before I made him change it to entocort. Nausea was not a symptom for either one for me.

Hope this helps.

Hi M,

I was on 3mg for a year....during my last appt., the doc cut me down to 3mg every 2 days. Starting on Sept. 1st, I start taking 3mg every 3 days. I am waiting for the shoe to drop, but so far, so good.

Take care....JJ

Hi Melissa,

I've never taken Entocort but I encourage you to try it based on all the good experiences with it I've read from the members above and on Sally's Board. Many people seem to tolerate it quite well and have good experience with it - quick results; this should get you back in "working order" in a short time so you can become functional again. You deserve a break!!

Love,
Karen

Yup, this is exactly the situation for when to try, IMHO.

I wish you luck.
