Finally
Yesterday, my doctor switched me to Asacol. She said that the Lialda didn't have a chance to help me because my D was so bad. It's been somewhat of a dramatic help. Literally, over night it has stopped the D. I am so grateful. Now I have a chance to figure out what I can and cannot eat safely.
Thank you all for all the information and patience.

I'm taking 2 400mg Asacol EC tablets four times per day. I took 2 doses last night (by the time I picked it up) and by this morning, the diarrhea was gone.
I'm continuing to be very careful with what I eat. But, it is very nice to be able to eat anything and not be in the bathroom within 1/2 hour.
Yesterday, within 1 1/2 hours, I saw undigested parts of my lunch. Lightening quick!
Today, much calmer. I'm very grateful!
Thank you everyone!

Hi Arlene,
Wow that was fast work for Asacol - never did a thing for me and that was using at the end 14 - 400mg per day.
I would be VERY careful about eating just anything at all as you said. Better safe than sorry. It is a drug but not a wonder drug.
Love, Maggie

Arlene,
Call me a skeptic, but Asacol never works that fast. Never! You had to be one day away from reaching control with the Lialda, in order to respond to Asacol that quickly. I also don't understand why your doctor said:
Whatever the case, it's definitely good to see that you are finally getting some relief, so let's not look that gift horse in the mouth.

Both those meds are in the 5-ASA family, so they both have the same active ingredient. That's another reason why I believe that you were one day away from control because of using the Lialda. Why would Asacol do what Lialda couldn't do, when it is simply a newer form of the same active ingredient used in Asacol.that the Lialda didn't have a chance to help me because my D was so bad.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I do think that the Lialda was in my system somewhat. The inflammation in my skin had cleared up. However, the 6 to 9 episodes of D every day hadn't showed any signs of stopping, in fact it was getting worse.
Yesterday, 1 1/2 hours after eating lunch, there was undigested pieces of the food visible. I think the medication definitely wasn't in my system 24 hours as intended.
But as you said, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. The chicken and rice I had for dinner tasted like a gourmet meal tonight. I intend to take it very slowly and carefully. Just for today, I feel better.
