Dosage and Administration for Asacol

For the maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis: The recommended dosage in adults is 1.6 grams daily, in divided doses. Treatment duration in the prospective, well-controlled trial was 6 months.

Jenny it 'cured' me. It took it for 3 weeks and I was doing much better. I then weened it down to 2, then 1. I don't take it anymore. I have been fine since the new year and eat all regular food with no problems. I do not drink soda (diet coke) or anything with caffeine anymore, which is what I think caused my mc. I drank alot of it! I was told my MC was mild, though when it was at full force it sure didn't seem mild.

Mary Jo,

I can't help but wonder if aspartame might be the problem, rather than caffeine. Very few of us have problems with caffeine, but many/most of us have major problems with any artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame, and most diet drinks contain aspartame.

Asacol

Post by Grannygoo »

I've took 2 Asacol 400 mg three times a day for the last 6 years, and I have done well on it, except after taking it for about 2 years decided to get off it, but doc didn't think it was a good idea, but I did anyway by tapering off, but after a while got back in the same shape I was in when 1st diagnosed with this disease, so had to start back on it. The thing I have against it is it's really expensive. The last time I saw my doctor, I asked him if there was something I could take that might be equivalent, and not as expensive and he said could try Sulfasalazine, but it has a lot of side effects, but I decided to give it a try, and I couldn't take it. I had awful side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, and was in bed most of the time. Was very sick as soon as I got out of bed, lost appetite, and couldn't eat anything, would get so nauseous. Only took it for about 3 full days, and had to go back to the Asacol, will just have to stay on it, since it is working so well for me, I still have flares, and have to watch what I eat, but it does well for me.

I was lucky in that I got alot of free samples of the asacol hd.

I don't know Tex. I did have terrible shaking in the hospital for a day or 2, possibly from caffeine withdrawl. Either way, gonna avoid it since I'm doing well without it. Could be it was just too much, I'm embarressed to say 6 cans of diet coke a day.
