A Positive Sign?
G'day mates!
Today is day 47 of the LEAP diet. After adding in one new food a day for all of that time, I forgot to do so yesterday! I think this is a sign that my diet has become much more varied and almost normal again. What do you think?
But I'm back to the drawing board today. Am testing curry powder tonight. I'm not too hopeful because I think I have trouble with hot peppers, which I think are in curry powder. It certainly would be nice to be able to make some curries. Stay tuned.

I had a busy weekend away from the board but am back now and was curious as to how the curry powder worked out for you. Curry is something I rarely use and can't decide if I even like it. There are so many different kinds of curry as well. I'm starting to agree with Kari in that when you are so limited to what you can eat, you begin to open up to new flavors based on what works best for healing.

You were green for both capsaicin and cayenne, so maybe . . . but you were yellow for paprika (same family). I am curous to see how it goes.
I love spicy foods but they are an enormous trigger for me. I can tolerate heat from horeseradish and ginger (different kind of heat but still good to me) but not even a speck of paprika - really gives me heartburn pretty quickly.

Well, I was really lucky, considering the curry powder I used has 12 spices in it: coriander, fenugeek, turmeric, cumin, black pepper, bay leaves, celery seed, nutmeg, cloves, onion, red pepper, and ginger. YIKES....... I am living dangerously. Don't know why I was being so courageous (think stupid). I had previously tested only 2 of the ingredients (onion and turmeric). And, one of the spices, celery seed, is red for me. But I had no problems from it - at least the small amount I used. How about that?
Of course, no way I can become complacent. Toay I tested raspberries at breakfast, ("high" green for me) and I have been reacting all day. Have had 4 BMs, one loose, as well as "THAT" feeling (jittery, unwell, doom-like), and burps and tummy rumbles. I had forgotten how yukky a reaction can be. Don't even feel up to working out. At least I know it'll be over soon.
All of this proves why MRT is such an important tool for getting well. I would never have guessed the above outcomes.
MB, there was no paprika in the curry powder, so I'll need to test it. BTW, I tested grated, raw fresh horseradish Sat. and had no problems.

Great to hear that you are getting excited about a more varied diet. MRT is so useful, since having "solid" guidelines regarding what to try, it is so much easier and less scary to "branch out". You give me a lot of hope that I will get to "the other side" of this struggle, and "luxuriate" in interesting meals again .
For me it is always hard to tell what I'm reacting to when trying new things, as there also seems to be a time factor involved (of course, my system has never settled down enough to be considered "stable" yet). So my question to you would be how you know for sure that you reacted to the raspberries and not the curry? In other words, could it possibly have been a delayed reaction to the curry?

Good point. I wondered about that myself. However, I tested the curry powder 3 days ago, and with everything else I've reacted to, it happens within 24 hours. I guess it's always possible, but I really think my gut is calm enough now that I most likely will react within 24 hours. But I will test it separately another time to make sure. Mary Beth, what do you think???

I am guessing berries too, but when in doubt you need to test again. There's always a chance that it's not specifically the berries, but some cumulative response to a food chemical like salicylate or histamine. That's why it's sometimes good to test foods again.

I remember being where you are and not knowing what I was reacting to . . . . .soooo frustrating. It took me a while to figure out that I needed histamine guidelines with my MRT - for me that was the magic combo. Do you suppose you could have some histamine issues?
