Allergy or Intolerance

Post by Gabes-Apg »

I read a few articles today that pose the question is it food allergy or food intolerance, and how it is hard for practitioners to assess and confirm ( IMO it is because it takes more than a blood test to confirm)

also of note is the increase of allergies.

one common statement from a few of the articles was similar to this one
Prof Allen said allergy was an important public health issue and the reason for the spike was unclear.

"We are going to have to increase education and training, not only of specialists in allergy but we are going to have to train medical practitioners in order to deal with this evolving tsunami of food allergy."

I for one say say HERE HERE to medical practitioners being more aware how to deal with food allergies... will it happen in my lifetime???

Agreed Gabes, food allergies vs intolerance really does seem to be a key question, especially in light of the findings among the members here.

Along those line Dr Fasano has had an article along these lines regarding gluten intolerance vs celiac disease.

What would be interesting is a way to screen for that that is available to the mainstream medical community. Right now that is unfortunately not addressed in either funding or university research to any great extent.

Of course to do that a lot of the 'old guard' would have to admit they are wrong
