I have been looking for a good explanation of what Mediator Release Testing (MRT) truly is and found the following article that gives a great description of the test process and results

MRT vs Enerolab?
Hi everyone. I haven't been here much lately, as have been working on a rental with damage from a former renter, so that's been ruling my life. Have been trying my best to stay GF, but as tired as I get & come in around dinner time, have been using some GF mixes I've found in WM, etc, lately. No improvement for me at all since I started trying to be GF, but out of desperation & no time, have also been still using some corn products & some dairy, but not much dairy at all. Mostly either GF cornbread or corn tortillas, as with them I can fix a simple menu for me when tired & in a hurry. I'm planning on getting serious about the Enterolab testing week after next, after seeing my Dr. & getting some things done, so that I can concentrate more on this diet. Just wondering why people are having tests done by both labs? From what little I've read about it, is it a more exhaustive food intolerance test?
Also, are the Betty Crocker, etc, more mainstream companies that make GF foods & mixes, not usually safe because of the environment being contaminated w/ gluten from their other products? Or are there those that do fine with those brands? I hope I haven't asked this before. If so, I apolgize, just have a lot going & my memory has gone to seed, I think.

You can't change the wind, but you can adjust the sails.
Hi Lulu,
I'm sorry that you've been dealing with stressful issues. Renters can do a lot of damage, if they're so inclined.
IMHO, the biggest risk to purchasing GF foods and mixes is that they usually contain multiple ingredients. When you are beginning to determine your intolerances, it's much better to stay with simple, single ingredient foods. Eventually you'll learn which ingredients to avoid and you can venture into testing GF foods and mixes, but it's not advisable when you're still sorting out what you can and can't eat.

Most of us so far who have had both lab tests (Enterolab and MRT) have done so because we've been unable to achieve complete remission after eliminating the intolerances found on the Enterolab tests. Each test looks for reactions differently. They don't support each other's conclusions, but rather complement each other. For example, MRT revealed that I'm unable to eat beef and chicken. Enterolab doesn't test for meat intolerances.Lulu wrote:Just wondering why people are having tests done by both labs? You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Thanks Gloria. I know you guys had told me to keep it simple at first, but that's so hard when so tired & hungry & something is easier, so hoping that life will slow down some & become less stressful also and can be a better keeper of the diet. I have devised a pretty good tabouli from Quinoa, as was craving things like that, but that's probably not a good thing either right now. Read earlier on here that someone was maybe having problems with that also. This sure isn't fun & guess I'm tired right now & a little devilish, but get so hungry when I've been painting, etc., I want something more than meat & a mushy vegetable. I know that's awful, but will try harder.
Has anyone found any success with any food enzymes or good DF probiotics that they can pass along? There are so many to choose from & lots with no live things in them, I know. I did order a food enzyme that has come highly recommended by someone that had chronic D, but haven't gotten it as yet. Just frustrated & no time to research & try things as I'd like, but will get there sooner/later. Will be awhile until I sell things & get to where I can take care of things by myself easier.
