seem to do better on rice and canned fruit

Post by harma »

The first days here were a bit of simple food, more rice and canned fruit than usual. It almost may sound like, I am anti Paleo, well I am not at all. But for me it seems that I am doing (bowel wise than) better with a little less vegetables and fresh fruit (except banana's) and a bit more rice and canned fruit.

It goes against my idea of healthy food, fresh fruit and both lunch and dinner each a different type of vegetable, and only a little rice for breakfast (my alternated paleo version) feels to me so much more healthier.

I remember from the last time in September when I arrived here, my MC improved a lot, especially the first weeks. Today I realized than also I had that same diet, more rise, more canned fruit, no fresh fruit expect banana's and less vegetables.

So I am going to give this less healthy food regime a change. I would prefer canned fruit without added sugar (as I would prefer organic chicken) but, this is Jordan. I am happy I can maintain my diet here, without having this additional requirements.

I love canned fruit (but not good for me, as I don't digest the added sugar in it). And talk about convenient! It doesn't get any easier or more portable than that! Enjoy! If you are doing better on it, go for it!

The canned pineapple that I am eating doesn't have added sugar. I believe it is Dole. Glad something is working for you Harma.

Okay, this may be a stupid question but I am not eating any fruit other than bananas because everybody said not to eat uncooked fruit other than bananas. (If I cook it's not ever fruit!!) Is canned fruit cooked????

From DelMonte's FAQs about their canned products:
COOKING/COOLING

Fruits are acidic products that only require cooking at boiling temperatures (atmospheric pressure), generally in large rotary cookers, to sterilize the contents of the sealed can. Some fruits, such as Yellow Cling peaches, are cooked beyond the point of sterilization to achieve a softer texture. The cans are cooled under water sprays so that the hot cans do not continue to cook after they are labeled and cased.
For canned vegetables:
COOKING

This is the critical processing operation because the acid level of vegetables is too low to inactivate bacteria and other microorganisms. The sealed cans are cooked with steam in a large pressure cooker, usually called a retort, at a high temperature (240 to 270 degrees Fahrenheit) for a specified time period. The cooking procedures are carefully monitored and recorded.

Coach Polly,

If you are just starting an elimination diet I would hold off on the fruit because of fiber and possible fructose malabsorption. I have been at this for quite some time and haven't eaten fruit in a very long time. I am/was fructose intolerant but now that my gut is healing and I tested ok for pineapple on the MRT I am eating it and doing well.

Thanks Pat! That's the type of information I need. I am really missing my fruit and just don't feel like I am eating healthy without it. I should be doing my MRT testing next week so hopefully I will have some better direction soon.

Coach polly
i totally empathise, before MC i would have 3 pieces of fruit a day, living in tropical queensland we have a fantastic range of fruit available to us at very reasonable cost.

i have tried cooked apple twice in the past 12 months and plan on doing it again soon. I have been allergic to banana's since birth so my MC eating plan has been a slight challenge food wise as i dont have many things i can eat on the go.

i have been so focussed on being well and healing, i have not wanted to cause chaos by testing too many new things....
