Attempting to do the impossible- wish me luck! (FINISHED)

Hey everyone,

I need a little bit of support while I attempt to achieve the impossible with my uni work. I'm doing 2 semesters worth of work between now and June 13th.

I have handed in an assignment and done an exam that I haven't written down, So I am getting there slowly!

The reason I am so behing is not because I am lazy, but becasue I was actually quite ill when i returned to uni in September and had to go home a lot for hospital appointments, and they this Semester there have been a lot of personal problems

This is what I need to do and for when (Note that the deadlines are in UK format of D.M.Y- it's how i'm used to writing them)

The ones that are red are the ones that have been completed

1-Modernism Essay (1500 words) 1/4/11- changed to 4/4/11
2-American Lit Presentation- some point in the week 4/4/11-8/4/11
3-Postcolonial Lit Presentation- 14/4/11
4-American Lit Essay (2000-2500 words) 09/05/11
5-Restoration Literature exam 16/5/11
6-Theory Wars exam 20/5/11
7-Colonial Lit Essay (2000 words) 13/6/11
8-Poscolonial Lit Essay (2500 words) 13/6/11
9-Renaissance Lit Essay (2500 words) 13/6/11- I am now doing this as a resit
The two presentations are basically essay plans for points 4&7 and aren't actually assessed.

But any support you can all give me would be epic!

That's a pretty stiff writing schedule, but I suppose it's doable, if you're motivated, and apparently you are, if you're willing to tackle it.

So go for it!

You bring to mind a fellow I used to know who was always telling us about difficult things that he accomplished. Before he finished a story, he would almost always add, "It was impossible, but I did it anyway!"

That kind of attitude is what it takes to get the job done, when the chips are down.

Don't let the fact that it may be impossible, cause you to hesitate. People do impossible things every day. It's all a matter of attitude, and dedication. Best of luck with your work. You can do it.

That's a lot of essays - I hope you enjoy writing! As Tex said, you can do it if you put your mind to it. I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of you until June. Good luck!

Yes, you can do it!

It sounds as though you're off to a fine start, and every accomplishment will give you energy, confidence and momentum. And those two presentations are an opportunity to get your later essays on those topics off on the right track. So even though they're imminent, they're also a real step forward toward the larger/later goals (sort of diluting the scare factor of that big June deadline!)

Those word lengths are plenty of work, but they're also of a reasonable enough size that you can focus on what you want to say, and not only on the mountain of words you have yet to write.

Best of luck, and best of health! You may be the only uni student who doesn't need a lot of reminding to take care of yourself, but just in case, do take good care of your self. We are all rooting for you and cheering you on from the sidelines,

Hey, thank you all.

I'm taking it one day at a time. There is a back up plan if it all goes wrong, but at the moment I'm feeling that I can do at least 80% of it.

Currently having a bit of a wobble with the one that is due in on friday as I have been ill all weekend (actually spent the weekend in bed) and am contemplating asking for a weekend extension on it, but that is going to have a knock on effect with my other things.

But I am going to try and keep positive

It is a tough schedule but you seem motivated and determined and I am sure things will work out for you. Subject matter is not entirely up my alley but I so love to write.

Hi Katy!

Your post brought back memories of my senior year of college. I was premed, and found out in senior year that I hadn't taken enough English credits. So I signed up for "The Modern British Novel". We had to read (and be tested on) 10 huge novels in 10 weeks! One was "Buddenbrooks"! And one was "Ulysses" - can you imagine? Academics have spent lifetimes trying to understand that book! But there I was, reading it in one week. Probably some kind of record. HAHAHA.

So, I can understand how overwhelmed you must feel. But I have a feeling you will be just fine. Hopefully you are like me in that the more I have to do the more I am able to get done.

I've read Ulysses, infact I answered an exam question on it! but still it is an awful book to read and understand. When we read it we had to read a guide for it at the same time!

The deadline for my modernism essay has changed because where i go to hand it in is shut for training on friday. Gives me an extra weekend to check it makes as much sense as can be possible!
