Low Histamine & Low FODMAP

Post by TooManyHats »

Trying to follow both of these lists of foods can sometimes be confusing. So far, I think I can have blueberries and cantaloupe for fruit. I can't figure out any others when looking at both lists together. For vegs, the only ones I can figure out are carrots, celery, and bok choy. Most of the other vegs seem way to harsh for my system, unless I'm wrong there.

I'm wondering if anyone who knows anything about how to navigate these 2 sensitivities can give me a clue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

BTW, bok choy is excellent sauteed in a bit of olive oil and garlic. Well, cooked to death is a more realistic way of how I ate it, but it was VERY good!

Arlene,

Could you find any lists that indicate the degree of histamine present in each food i.e low, moderate, high?

Polly,

Yes, I could, but can't find a good one for FODMAP foods. I'm trying to expand my diet and am having some trouble probably because of inexperience more than anything navigating the 2 lists. And it seems to me, unless I'm wrong, that often the 2 lists conflict.

BTW, I tried Silk vanilla almond milk, 4 ounces at a time, and had no trouble with it. I'm hoping that opens the door for a tasty blueberry smoothie.

Arlene,

Here is a good articel on FODMAP http://www.mecfs-vic.org.au/sites/www.m ... Gastro.pdf

My initial thought is that histamine restriction and FODMAP should be tested separately. Yes, the 2 lists conflict so it would be very difficult. Why not just try one at a time and see if one or the other plays a more significant role in your symptoms.

Thank you very much! Very good idea about testing separately , Mary Beth. That could open the door to a wider variety for me.
