Nausea and Pepto Bismol

I know I have asked questions about Pepto Bismol before, but don't think I asked this one. I started taking 6-8 a day about 8 days ago. My new symtom is nausea. I wake up feeling fine, no nausea, then of course I hit the bathroom. I usually take the P-B before breakfast. Then the nausea hits and lasts most of the morning. I was wondering if anyone has found this as a side effect?

I called for my Enterolab testing kit today.

I sure did. Not only nausea but vomiting too. I can't tolerate PB at all. Good to hear your going the enterolab route.

nancy,

People who are sensitive to salicylates (aspirin/NSAIDS) shouldn't take pepto. Many with MC need to avoid salicylates. Just a thought.

Thanks Polly and Mary Beth. I knew I'd get some good answers here.

I have had a bleeding ulcer in the past, and enough NSAIDS to last a lifetime when I was misdiagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1995. I do have a sensitive system. If it's not too much trouble could you lead me to a good website regarding this so I can present to my new doctor when I see him in two weeks?

Same reaction I had to pepto. Consider it the worst treatment I ever had.

Thanks Tex for all that information. I will print it and bring it along to my appointment in case it's needed.
I know I need to take responsibility for meds that I take and should have read more about pepto myself. I will be doing that in the future. You think I would have learned by now. LOL
I just looked at the copy of my colonoscopy report and it states - allergy: aspirin. He then proceeds to tell me to take pepto 8 times a day for 8 weeks and if that doesn't work, try Asacol. So I guess I'm going to share some of the blame with him seeing he has it all written up in the same paragraph.

I am much more hopeful about my new doctor. Who knows, maybe the Enterolab testing and more knowledge about foods will also help.

I had a bad reaction to Pepto Bismol, too. No vomiting or nausea, but worse D all night long.

Pepto made me throw up..even as a kid. Maybe the clue was way back then.. that I would have colitis later....

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents... Pepto tablets GIVE me D, while the liquid agrees with me just fine. While your reaction is probably to salicylates, there are other ingredients that may be involved.
