Couple Questions--Rotating Food Intolerances?

Discussions can be posted here about mediator release testing (MRT), as offered by Oxford Biological Technologies, in conjunction with the LEAP program, which is claimed to determine a relative level of sensitivity to various foods and chemicals by measuring an increase in the ratio of liquids to solids in a blood sample that has been exposed to a specific allergen.

Couple Questions--Rotating Food Intolerances?

Post by MBombardier »

I decided that I was so tired of the yellow-colored-water D that I removed corn and rice both from my diet in one whack. Surprise! Norman. Okay, so here are my questions:

I can eat a little of either corn or rice, i.e., a few cookies, a little bit of spaghetti, several jelly beans, etc., and not have any problems. Am I really not having any problems? When people talk about rotating foods, are they talking about foods they are or may be allergic to, or foods they are intolerant of?

After eating a little bit of spaghetti sauce a couple of weeks ago I broke out on my lips from the tomato like I haven't done in maybe a couple of years, and this was while taking Zyrtec/Zantec. Then I reacted to a dog, when I haven't reacted to dogs or cats since I went gluten-free. So I switched to Allegra, which in the past has been like having no allergies, and it's like I am taking nothing. I hate to think what I'd really be suffering if I wasn't taking it. Could this be from challenging soy on Mar. 12th like an idiot? Because I am not only intolerant of soy, I am allergic to it. Why would my allergies, which I thought were going away, be giving me fits?

I finally contacted my GP today about running immunoglobin tests, since I may have an IgA deficiency.

Marliss,
It sounds like you have a lot going on and I don't feel like I know enough to be helpful. I will defer to someone with more knowledge. I hope there are some tests that will help you and I hope you can figure out this puzzle very soon.

Mornin' Marliss!

Good questions there. I'll give them a stab, but will defer to Mary Beth, of course, if I'm wrong.

With regard to rotating foods, I believe the answer is NEITHER. I think that the foods that one is allergic/intolerant of should be avoided all together, for an extended period or maybe forever. The foods that are rotated are the safe foods, the ones that you never react to. The thinking is that we want to prevent new sensitivities from developing to our safe foods. When in doubt, leave it out! LOL! There will be plenty of time once the gut heals to retest those "iffy" foods individually to see if you react or not.

Mary Beth is the allergy expert, but I wonder if yours might be worse right now because allergy season is upon us again. The soy challenge
was one month ago, and I would guess that any histamine from that event would be long gone. But maybe your challenge set a process in motion? I'm just babbling here - I'm sure MB will have some ideas.

I hope you are back on track ASAP.

Hugs,

Polly

Thank you for explaining that, Polly. That was a question I have had for a long time. One of those that comes up because you are assuming something you don't realize is wrong. The green, yellow, red designations make so much more sense now.
