Presidential Volunteer Service Award Winner

Post by jodibelle352 »

:grouphug: What a week I've been having. :pigtail:
Have some special news to share. :courtsey: Went to my Grief Support Group this morning and I think I may have mentioned that I have been making: comfort shawls, bed jackets and lap afghans for Heartland Hospice. I've made a total of 14 items which I crocheted all of them. There were 16 of us today for our group session. At the very beginning Jerry our lead grief coordinator made this announcement;"There is someone in our group who is about to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for over 100 hours of service. That someone is Josette E. Everyone here knows her by Jodi." I was asked to come forward and I received: A personalized certificate of achievement, An official President's Volunteer Service Award Bronze lapel pin and A congratulatory letter from the President of the United States.
I didn't even know there was such an award. I crocheted those things to help keep myself busy and because they were going to be given to termminal patients who needed to receive something special, so I made sure I didn't use the same pattern twice. LOL My biggest joy was receiving 'thank you' notes from the patients who received one of my crocheted items.
After the Group Session I was taken to Apple B's to eat. So Potty People Family, I have had an amazing day! The only bad part of today was WINTER is trying to come back to Michigan~

Thank You Sara ~ It's just been a very crazy year for me since my husband; David died May 10th of last year. Everything has just been a little too much for me to handle. Today was just as big a surprise as getting flowers from everyone here about 2-3 weeks ago. I just did them to make someone feel good even if it was only for a few minutes. Thanks again~

Wow, Jodi, what an impressive recognition. It's always more significant to receive praise when we aren't seeking it. Congratulations!

Thank You Gloria~
It sure has been a very positive change for me in only 5 weeks time. I've even decided to leave in God's hands the issues I'm having with my son & daughter-in-law. I've done everything to try & make things right & things just seem to go from bad to worse. Sooooo, My Friend~ I'm not able to handle this one on my own & I'm all teared out from crying. I'm just going to Let God Handle It.

Hi Barbara~
Thank You, I think I'm once again beginning to feel like I have a purpose. This award today was like putting the icing on the cake for me.
I'm so use to taking care of David that I didn't even know where or how to begin taking care of myself. '
Since I've moved into my new home, doing things that I WANT TO DO instead of what others think I should be doing and putting my wants & needs first has really made a BIG difference in my attitude.
It felt really good to receive recognition today for something that wasn't even work to me. I Love to Crochet~

Jodi,

Congratulations - what a wonderful recognition!!! After the very tough year you've been through, it sounds like it happened at the right time. I hope everything will continue to go well for you in your new home and with your new attitude regarding your relationship with your son and DIL. Taking care of yourself is of utmost importance - when you do that, other things tend to fall into place more easily. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!!!

Love,
Kari

Jodi,

I am so proud of you. It is so hard to find a way to live after the lost of a long time life partner. You are making such great strides toward becoming who you have always been.

Please continue to take care of yourself. I know that God has his hand on you.

Congratulations, Jodi, on being recognized for what you have been doing for others, even in the midst of your own sorrow and difficult times.

May you continue to feel God's loving presence, and I do truly pray that the relationship with your son's family will be healed.

Jodi,

That's absolutely awesome! Sorry I'm so late with my response - I had an equipment failure, so I've been spending all my time repairing it, but I finally got it up and running again, this morning, so I had a chance to log in.

Congratulations! I'm very impressed that you would receive such high-level recognition, but you know what? Frankly, I'm not really surprised that you would qualify for such an award, because it has always been obvious that you are a very caring, and giving person, and you have always placed the happiness of others above your own. It takes an exceptional individual, to do so much for others, especially strangers, despite having so many problems yourself. And to do that while expecting nothing in return, makes you one in a million.

As the others have mentioned, I'm honored to be considered to be one of your friends.

Love,
Tex

Thank You Everybody for celebrating with me!
I have had sooooo many things develope in just the past 5 weeks that at times it's overwhelming.
I know in my heart my relationship with my son will at some point change, when that will be I'm thinking it will be in God's Time not mine. We sometimes forget like I do that there are things that we have NO contarol over.
This just happens to be one of those situations. I love him dearly, but I am not going to be treated with disrespect by his wife. David~Never would have treated anyone as she has & I'm not going to become her personal punching bag! :Itchscratch:
