Tired soon after eating rice - coincidence?

Post by sarkin »

I'm discovering how hard it is to do any experimenting that feels 'controlled'! I had rice the other night, which I think has been safe for me, but I'm mostly following a no-grains approach. Before dinner was over, I was ready for bed. I sort of rallied, but it felt like a clear response to the rice.

Of course, I had also tried Histame for the first time, before that very same meal. Now I'm wondering whether it's possible I reacted to something in the Histame. I was planning to use it with more 'histamine suspect' meals, but now think I should have a meal I've been relying on with Histame.

A friend's SIL can't really eat any starches at all - it knocks her out. She is (at least) gluten intolerant (I didn't pry too much and it's possible my friend doesn't know the details.) Does anyone else have swift strong fatigue after eating non-gluten grains that don't otherwise seem to provoke a reaction?

Thanks

Sara

Sara that sounds like the reaction for me to gluten, I get very tired, foggy brained and a lot of muscle and joint pains, usually within 30 minutes of eating any.

I have been having this same problem after supper. I will have to skip the rice and see what happens.

something you may want to consider.

most of the MC friendly foods in my eating plan are High acid foods. I was having issues with Gerd and did a bit of research on this.
if the PH of the gut is not balanced and you eat high acid foods, it takes things like potassium, magnesium and calcium from the body to balance the PH, in my case this was causing fatigue and muscle aches late in the day.

i now try to balance high acid and high alkaline foods/drinks through the day.

I did some of the pH testing, i was ok in the morning, at first i was only doing it first up in the morning and it as ok, then as i tested it at lunchtime and before bed, that the PH would be very low

Gabes,

What an interesting concept - I had no idea which foods would be acidic versus alkaline, so I "googled" it and found the above link, which has a great table grading various foods. I have always wondered about my life-long fatigue issues, and this might shed some light on it. Thanks for this information.

Sara,

According to the table, white rice is considered acidic, so perhaps this is your answer?

i have only figured this out in the past week. my ph levels first up in the morning were fine, only late last week did i test it during the day, by lunch it was quite low, down to 5.0 reading a few websites and reading about the impact of long term acid issues the lightbulb went off. I was having aches and pain but not like the Gluten type joint aches, it was more muscular, it was worse later in the day.

having lemon juice (about 10ml) with hot water and the pottassium powder (called gastric buffer) in small amounts during the day has solved most of the issues,

this was the chart i used to tweak my ingredients and diet to try and increase the alkaline or less acidic ingredients.

having MC is like studying for a degree in food science!

LOL Gabes - so true, so true. Now I'm going to do research on "restless leg syndrome" which I experience quite often - especially on long plane trips :(.

Thanks for all your advise on my upcoming trip - you're a true MC pioneer woman!!!

Kari,

Magnesium deficiency is one of the leading causes of the restless leg syndrome. I apologize for wasting your time, if you're already aware of that.

i for one am forever thankful for your reminders re this type of stuff.

in the past when there is discussions about things like this i have not paid full attention as it was not an issue at that time, and now it is super relevant.

A bit like Rich's discussion about Steve Jobs and connecting the dots. at the time the event or the information didnt make sense and later down the track, its meaning has whole new relevance.

Kari,
I've also got the restless legs. A slight tremor in the hands too. When they act up, remembering to up my cal/mag and b complex supplements seems to do the trick within a few days. I still plan to look into magnesium oil to apply topically. Dr. Mercola sells it on his website.

Topical magnesium is new to me, too. I think I'll reroute my errands today to investigate - thanks!

The whole alkaline/acid diet concept validates what my chiropractor told me...that the reason I was having so many aches and pains, bowel issues, Gerd, and fatigue were related to the fact that I consumed to much acidic foods. He told me I needed to consume less carbs and meat, and eat more fruits and veggies (canned or cooked, not raw since my gut cant take it). Easier said than done...

The idea of balancing pH with potassium, calcium and magnesium is new to me. Do you guys know of any supplements that are easy on the stomach? I quit taking multivitamins and calcium because they make me sick to my stomach. I would much rather eat foods high in potassium, calcium and magnesium but that isn't always possible.

Gabes - I've taken this "balancing act" to heart, and have added lemon to my drinking water, among other things. Wow - I realize that most of my life (pre the MC diet) I've been eating mostly acidic foods :newshocked: . However, I'm glad to note that my diet now is much more alkaline, and after tweaking it a bit more, will be even more so. Question for you - how do you test your PH?
