I find that as I'm gaining confidence in the kitchen, I'm also starting to experiment, using "common sense" and past memories, such as things my mother used to prepare.
I love pears, but am trying not to eat uncooked fruits, so here is what I did:
Pealed a few ripe pears and cut them into small pieces. Placed them in a pan and barely covered them with water. Added 1 tsp. cinnamon. Simmered for half an hour, while stirring occasionally.
After this, the small amount of water left was slightly gooey and tasty. I then chilled it in the refrig. I've been snacking on this treat for 3 days now, and the texture and flavor are wonderful, reminiscent of my mother's preserved pears that I grew up with.
It's amazing how something that simple, can bring so much pleasure :). This morning when I had some, I added a small amount of almond milk - heavenly!!!
Love,
Kari
