it has been an amazing few days to explore my new home town with a great MC mate.
Kari - thursday dinner was splendid, we did an early seating (first into the restaurant) the waitress remembered me from November when i went there for my interview. Joe had surf and turf, i had duck, the waitress did a wonderful job of triple checking everything and the chef did a fantastic job. It was a real treat to eat a) with company and b) a really tasty meal that was safe.
Mags - yes we got some shiraz, and some merlo and some sparkling white. after the summer rains and the recent fine weather the vineyards were looking beautiful, and the whole area is actually quite similar in look to where joe lives in new Hampshire. (except for the Aussie spotted gum trees everywhere)
Tex - YEP kangaroos are a big risk (hence why Rianna has a roo bar at the front) in the past 4 years i have gone close a few times to hitting a roo. we also have Wallaby's (bit smaller than a roo) and echidna's (like your porcupine) they are like a solid bit of cement and can do a bit of damage. Joe actually had a Roo jump across in front of his car when he was travelling up to Toowoomba last Thursday.
Connie - the antanna is for my UHF radio, in most of the areas we would go camping and 4wd'ing there is no mobile phone reception, and having comms was very important as quite a few of the tracks you loose site of the other cars when going through steep rocky tracks and it was always good to warn others of logs and wash outs.
the banter between vehicles can be fun as well!
Harma - i sooo wish i could be doing your jordon adventure with you or sharing gabes project management skills with you while you embrace change and adventure. please know that i am there in spirit.....
Weather - it is technically autumn and in quite a few areas the trees are turning golden. In the country areas the most common tree is the gum tree and most of the trees in this region are evergreen. We had about 5 years of drough and then extensive flooding rain during December and January this is the best i have seen the countryside, it was the perfect weekend to have Joe and his super dooper camera....
after a full on couple of days out and about, we are back at chez gabes, we have had a easy to digest type meal, I am in my yoda slippers and we are in the process of editing the photos - Joe's super dooper camera makes the file sizes quite large.
