news from the hummer nest from Facebook

Post by JLH »

Phoebe Allens Hummingbird Webcam
"Chick that fell has still not eaten. I think its neck was injured in the fall. They can survive quite a while on the yolk sac but it appears to be declining rapidly now. Am going to try to remove from nest without further injury and see if I can get help from a local rehabber."

Fascinating and do hope the little one makes a go of it.

Phoebe chick update

Post by JLH »

The chick is in the hands of a caring rehabber. She says she got some food into the crop and the chick proceeded to poop. No obvious signs of injury. So we are hoping she will develop and we can place her back in the nest soon. Cross your fingers.

sad news

Post by JLH »

Sadly, Cheche did not make it. Everything humanly possible was done but she died overnight. Happily, Scout is very healthy.

Thanks for the update Joan. Even though it's sad news, it's good to know what happened.

Scout seems to be growing in leaps and bounds - yeah!!!

Love,
Kari

Thanks for the update.

Unfortunately, it is the way of nature and hoping that all goes well for the lone survivor. Will be birding this weekend and I am sure to see some hummers out there.
