To answer a couple of the questions, I will be getting my implants after the bone has healed in early july.
I was fortunate that they could do the work this soon, what helped was the infection that is in the bone, he wanted to address that soon, and I described the timeline for the upcoming move. Overall the oral surgeon has been great in working with me to make the timeline will work for the move
Nancy I will be have the surgery done at St Josephs. Hopefully I will not have to stay overnight, I would doubt it though.
Thanks again everybody
Joe

Hey Joe,
Funny, we just had the posts last month about the number of us that have had extensive dental issues which we suspiciously relate to our chronic GI problems. Makes me think about a friend who was responding to my diagnosis some time back when she said, "Oh, colitis, that's no big deal." Sheeesh, I wish she could read your post about associated dental issues!
I sure hope that all goes well today with your surgery. Your attitude always amazes me...so upbeat and positive even while facing some adversity. You're a good role model on how to deal with a chronic health issue. We could all learn from you.
Wishing you a speedy recovery,
Julie

Well folks I have made it home after 8 hours at the hospital and seemed to have survived the experience. I had all 3 back molars removed from my upper right side of my jaw. The jawbone that was related to these teeth has also been thoroughly removed due to porousity and poor bone formation issues and infection. This portion of the jawbone has been replaced with bone from my right hip. It is thought that the Crohns and mc process have been the key contributors to this problem.
To manage the pain I have been taking morphine in the form of ms-contin 100mg tablets which have been borderline but it does make the pain bearable
I arrived at 8:30 am and the surgery was scheduled for 10AM overall the operation took about 4 hours and I awoke at about 2 PM missing a few teeth and had a very sore mouth and hip.
I suppose a quicker way to have these teeth removed would be if I insulted King Wally (ask Gabes LOL)
The jaw bone that was removed was less than ideal and would not have supported the existing molars or the implants long term
The hip bone has been affixed using a combination of a growth encouraging adhesive and 3 surgical screws. We are currently scheduling the placement of the implants for July 7th.
It's weird missing that many teeth in one area
Nurse Nestle lived up to her nick name today and has been a great and comforting companion. I am not sure I would do without her.
Thanks again to everyone for all of your encouragement and kind words.
Ok now it's time for a quiet weekend of recovery and relaxation.
Take care all

Joe,
I'm so glad you're home. I just came in from walking our dog, and as we strolled we were thinking of you and Nurse Nestle - thank you for updating us as soon as you were able.
Hope the pain subsides fast and the healing goes smoothly. Congratulations on getting this part of the process behind you.
I wish you a restful and restorative weekend!
Love,
Sara

Yes Pat they do have me icing the jaw quite a bit. That combined with morphine tablets do pretty good job of surprising the pain. I can tell you exaxtly when 6 hours has passed. this is one of times I am going to take the pain meds, I usually try to skip them.
Sofar so good, for foods jello, gooey rice, poached eggs
and well cooked veggies are on the menu.
Overall if I stay with the pain meds it's not too bad.... And of course Nurse Nestle is doing her job, it always amazing to watch her go into her 'nurse' mode whe she knows I am not feeling that well.

Joe, I'm glad the op went well and hope you are well on your way to recovery!
I know how annoying teeth problems can be, I've had massive problems with one of my teeth since it first had a filling put in it years ago, 2 root canals later, and still it causes me problems! I would go get it fixed, but i cannot afford it, so i just tolerate it for now.
But that was a bit of a tangent.
Hope Nurse Nestle is taking extra good care of you.
Katy.
