A Humble Thanks

Post by Joefnh »

Well today I had gotten up with the intent of trying to go to work, but the pain was to much to deal with without pain meds so decided to stay home.

I have been surprised that I have had only one friend in the States checking in on me during this time. Overall I have found that with the changes in my life due to MC and Crohns I have found that the number of friends in my life has dwindled significantly.

Today as I sat here resting, recuperating and reflecting on where my life is taking me, an unexpected yet truly appreciated gift arrived from a family that is more true to me than any family that I haver ever known.

Thanks so much to my Potty people friends for the flowers, you certainly are a special group and a wonderful family. I do not know where I would be today wthout all of your friendships and caring ways

Thank you each and every one, these were very special and did brighten my day.

While I have been on the mend I have been organizing various things including my photo collection...

Can anyone guess who this might be....

Hi Joe,

What a cute puppy Nurse Nestle was and just as gorgeous all grown up.

I have to say that my number of friends and family outside of our family are are quite few. I treasure my family and friends here and happily count you among my very good friends. I am sure you will be in touch and posting after your move - you had better.

Love, Maggie

P.S. - Hope you are on the mend soon.

Hi Joe,

In the 8+ months I have been a family member of the PP, I would say that you are one of the people who seem to give the most of yourself in terms of advise and support, so any recognition you receive is more than well deserved!!!!!

I hope you get better soon. My SO also just had oral surgery, and he has not been feeling well, so today he went back to the surgeon and found out that he has a sinus infection. Apparently, this is quite common with oral surgery - at least that's what the surgeon said.

Your Nurse was an adorable puppy - you locked out with her big time:). I'm sure you couldn't ask for a better friend.

Love,
Kari

Joe,

Sorry to hear the pain didn't take the hint and check out - hope every day (every hour) it's getting better.

I'm not surprised that your Nestle was adorable, but WOW, she was adorable!

I do agree with Kari; I have so appreciated your kindness and encouragement in my couple of months here. And thanks for the nudge... as I was reading your post, I thought for a moment that these are the moments in life when we recognize who our real friends are. And then I grabbed the phone and called someone I used to see easily and often, to make sure I'm keeping up my end of the friendship at a moment in her life when the chips are, not exactly down, but at least all thrown up in the air.

Good reminder.

Hope the weather there is half as lovely as here, just a few hours south...

Love,
Sara

Joe,

I have always been one to have just a few close friends... And I seem to get by ok with that. Maybe that explains why I don't get facebook. About ten years ago I made the mistake of going into business with "friends". When things got a litltle rough, they all bailed on me and left a few knives in my back. So I guess they weren't really friends after all. I am so distrustful of people any more.

But this is a cool group that ties us all together in ways that many could never appreciate. Amazing that a potty problem brings so much solidarity. You are a good guy and I have learned much from you... Especially patience (still working on that).

Joe,

Beautiful flowers for a beautiful person! I know it must have been a tough weekend with everything you've been through but my sincere hope is that the pain will subside quickly and you get a good night's rest and feel better tomorrow. You did the right thing giving yourself another day to rest and heal. It's good to hear Nestle's been by your side giving you all the canine love she has in her. I wanted to just reach through the monitor and pick her up...what an adorable pup she was.

.... well said Rich. I couldn't agree more!

Amen to everything said.

Joe, I am so happy for you with all you have to look forward to over the next few months and beyond. A new door has opened with all kinds of possibilities. Exciting times ahead for you my friend. I can't wait to meet you.

I think you should have let Nestle pose for the L.L. Bean Christmas catalog. She is such a beautiful dog and must be such comfort fo you.

I hope you're feeling much better by tomorrow and continue to feel better every day.

Dear Joe,

I'm so sorry that today was a bad day for pain. But it's nice that the flowers were able to cheer you up a bit, representing the care from your friends here. I hope that today was your worst day and that each day continues to be better.

I agree with the others--Nurse Nestle is gorgeous.

Wow thanks for all the kind notes. Things really are getting better especially compared to just a couple of days ago. I just won't drive with any of the pain meds, especially with a 1 hour commute. Overall I have been able to cut down from the mscontin to just 2 doses of the codeine today, hopefully tommorow not even that.

At least this is over although a bit more rushed than I would have liked. What drove this so quickly was the development of the infection in the jaw bone and the finding of the pourous nature of the bone. Originally this was going to be just a replacement of a single tooth with a failing root canal... Now this will be all set before the move.

Gabes thanks for introducing me to bubble and squeak, the soft nature of that has made that one of my staple foods for the past couple of days.

Thanks again for the flowers... I'm sure Tex was involved here somehow.

Joe -

I'm so glad that you are feeling better! Your attitude through all of this has been amazing! I need to take some lessons.

Nurse Nestle was an adorable puppy! Our fur babies are so comforting, especially when we aren't feeling good.

Take care.

Joe,

I wouldn't be in any hurry to go back to work - or to drive, either. You've had pretty extensive surgery. I hope you'll be feeling back to your old self soon.

Who can resist Nurse Nestle? She was an adorable puppy, and is a beautiful dog, inside and out.

Yes, the Potty People have provided concern and understanding that my other friends and relatives can't. Not because they don't want to, but because no one truly understands what we go through unless they've gone through it themselves. It's nice to know that we always have a place we can go for moral support.

The flowers truly are from the family, here, from everyone who is a member of this board. My involvement was very minor - all I did was to supply your address.

Take care of yourself, Joe - work can wait.

Joe--

I'll second what Tex said. I know you must be restless, but give yourself time to really heal. I pushed myself back to work after major wisdom teeth surgery and ended up worse off than I was right after the surgery itself!

It is so true, though, that you find out who your real friends are when you go through adversity.

Love,
