I love it, "The porch light is always on!"

Post by Tanya Lynn »

I, too, have been away for a long time and have really missed everyone and see a lot of new members. That really just says it all, "The porch light is always on!" Just to know that you still have people who really care about your well being. I would get on periodically and read posts, just didn't post anything. It's just amazing to see the amount of new members in just 5 months.

I'm over my 8 month flare up, 06/10 to 02/11, weened off the Entocort in Feb. and now I'm back to my normal self, being constipated.... I would have never thought while going through the last flare up, having diarrhea up to 12-15 times a day, that I would ever be constipated again. Wow, how things have changed.

I'm still following my GF,CF,SF,EF diet. I did try to add some cheese back into my diet and immediately know it was a bad thing to do. I have really bad bloating and gas. So, no more cheese and it was the hardest thing to give up, but I realized that I really can live without it.

As far as my health goes, 6 weeks after getting off the Entocort, I started having shoulder pain. The pain increased and this went on for about 7 weeks until I couldn't even lift my arm at all. I went to the orthopedic dr., did the MRI and was told it was Adhesive Capsulitis or Frozen shoulder. I have never been in so much pain and couldn' take any NSAID's for the inflammation. The Dr. cause me 2 cortisone shots in the shoulder and put me on Prednisone for 20 days. I'm also going to PT twice a week for 6 weeks. The therapist just has me doing a few exercises because she says it so inflamed.

I'm trying to stay positive right now, but it's just seems like the past 2 years I've not been feeling well.

What about all this I'm reading about Gabes and Joe? Wow, Joe, you just pick up and move half way around the world.

Tex, sure hope your doing well. I never forgot about any of you guys.....

Hi Tanya,

Nice to read an update from you. I think last time you were on here, you were suffering non-stop watery D. and at a loss about how to stop it. So your progress on that front sounds very encouraging. I don't know about C. since I've never experienced it, but I hope it's preferable to the debilitating D.

Your shoulder issue reminds me of an experience I had in my late 40's. I somehow pulled something in my shoulder, which resulted in excruciating pain. Every morning when I woke up, my whole arm was numb, and as soon as the numbness went away, the pain returned. My GP sent me to various "specialists", physical therapy, etc. When nothing helped, he wanted me to go see a surgeon, which I was not inclined to do. So long story short, I suffered close to 3 years and could not lift my arm, and I even stopped working out (a life-long passion).

Finally, I went to see an acupuncturist, and believe it or not, he "fixed" my shoulder in one session. He had electricity flowing in the needles, and did some acupressure afterwards. To this day I view it as a minor miracle (well, major one for me), and I'm very careful about how I move my joints. No "official" ever said this, but it is my feeling that I had a "trapped" nerve, which caused the constant pain.

Don't know if my story was helpful, as I'm not familiar with your diagnosis, but I strongly recommend seeking out a good acupuncturist for help with the pain. Good luck to you - hope your suffering comes to an end very soon.

Love,
Kari

Tanya,

I've had adhesive capulitis for about a year now. I did the shot and the PT but the best thing that helped me was a therapeutic massage. This massage therapist concentrated on my shoulder for an hour. I had to do lamaze breathing to get through it. It was very painful to go through but afterwards I was so much better. Hope that helps.

Hi Tanya,

It's good to hear from you again. I'm glad your MC is under control, but sorry you're having C. The shoulder pain sounds pretty awful. You've been given some suggestions; I hope you can use them.

I had shoulder pain after doing an exercise where I supported my weight on my hand and my leg. It continued for quite a while and I tried physical therapy. I finally realized that it wasn't helping and was perhaps irritating it, so I stopped the therapy. It finally healed on its own. My pain wasn't as severe as yours sounds, however.

Hi Tanya,

It's good to "hear" that you've got your MC symptoms under so much better control. I hope you can find a way to get your shoulder back to normal.

I'm doing OK - can't complain, especially now that we finally got a little rain, to relieve the drought for a while.

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the update. We always wonder how the rest of the family is doing, whenever we don't hear from someone for a while.

It is so nice to see some of our members posting after a bit.

Tanya - great to hear from you and look forward to hearing more. So sorry about the shoulder but I too might be one to go the actupunturist route for it. Massage sounds good too but can be a bit more painful but worth it.

Love, Maggie

Hi Tanya:
I am so glad d to hear that your long flare is over and that the MC is under control. Re: the frozen shoulder. About 20 years ago I tripped on a concrete curb and fell and tried to break my fall with my right arm straight out and got frozen shoulder from it. Drs could not do anything for it so I suffered for two and a half months. Then I went to a chiropractor and he fixed it in one session!! Go to a chiropractor!!! I do not recommend them for everything, but frozen shoulder is one thing I KNOW they can fix, like a "miracle."

Regards,
Linda

Kari,

Thanks for your story. I do have a very good acupuncturist that I've been seeing off and on for several years. I will give her a call and hopefully she can help. The PT just doesn't seem to be helping, like Gloria said, It just seems to be irritating the shoulder. Hope your MC is doing better...

Pat,
A really good massage does sound good, not so sure about what you went through. More pain... I think I'll try the acupuncture first then maybe go get a deep tissues massage. You must be relatively new here, you have found a wonderful place to learn and to reach out to someone who understands what your going through.

Gloria,

Thanks for writing, good to hear from you as well. Hope your health is under control. As I remember, you have a very very limited diet. I am so glad that I'm over my flare up and can start adding some fresh fruits and veggies back in my diet. I think the PT is doing exactly what you said, just irritating the shoulder more. I think I'll finish this week out and change to acupuncture.

Tex,

Good to hear from you. Glad your doing OK, don't know what everyone would do without you, you are truly amazing.
We haven't had any rain since Feb., and we desperately need some rain. I don't ever remember it being so dry here this early in the year. You take care of yourself, we all need you here....

Maggie,

Thanks for posting, I thought of you often after being attacked by that raccoon, right. Are you doing ok?

Linda,

It was your post where I read what Tex wrote, about "The porch light is always on," that just made me feel some welcomed here. It really is a great place to talk to people who are having the same issues. Sounds like you've been away a while as well. I would always pop in and catch up on some posts, but never wrote anything. Hope your MC is doing better and you've got your life back.

Joe,

Oh, my, I read about the terrible, painful ordeal that you went through with your teeth.... Just about every tooth I have left, has a root canal, crown or bridge. All my life, I've had dental problems. But to have major surgery, OUCH...

What exciting news to hear that your moving? Good luck on your next adventure...

Everyone else that's new here, you've found the best place to learn about how to deal with MC and Life will "GET BETTER!"

I promise,

Tanya

Tanya thanks for the good thoughts. I am feeling pretty good and basically over the surgery.

A question for you, I don't recall have you had any food intolerance testing done? Something like enterolab or MRT testing?

I recently had MRT testing and BIA testing which both came up with similar results. From that I have adjusted my diet even within the restrictions of a GF SF DF diet I found that if I had foods that showed a sensitivity, I would not feel well. One of the big surprises was rice. Since cutting out the rice, and a few other foods I am just feeling a lot better, more energy etc.

My goal is that after the move, that I would like to stop the meds I am on and see if the CC and Crohns can be managed with diet alone.

Initially I had thought that just eating GF DF SF etc.. Would be enough, I was surprised that it is not.

It's good to see you back

Take care. :-)
