My Sister is on evacuation standby for a wildfire

Post by Momster »

Hi:

I'm up waiting to hear news of how my Sister is doing. She phoned me at 11:00pm to tell me that there is a wildfire in their neighbourhood and they're on evacuation standby. Can't sleep for worryng. Thank goodness her fiance is with her this weekend and they've loaded his van and her car with valuables. Pretty scary stuff. I just checked the web news and as of 1/2 hour ago they've evacuated more people and my Sister said they can see the fire up the hill from them. What a thing to happen with her wedding 3 weeks away. This has been a year to remember for our family.

Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes. Just had to tell you because I didn't want to phone anyone at this late hour - it's now 1:00am here.

Good vibes sent would be appreciated.

Love - Momster

Oh Momster! How upsetting! But better to be safe than sorry. I am sending all of my best vibes for the fire to be controlled quickly.

Love,

Polly

Hi Momster,

I hope the situation is under control, or at least looking a lot better this morning.

I hope you were able to get some rest, also.

Momster,
Have faith and I am praying the fire is under control by now and that your sister was spared any loss.

Let us know soon as you can, please.

Still On Standby

Post by Momster »

I just talked to her and they have their vehicles loaded and are still on standby. Needless to say, they spent a wakeful night and I was a bit worried when I called her this morning and there was no answer, but she was just outside and called me back. There have been 100 homes evacuated already higher up the hill and the fire is only 300 meters from those homes, but a couple of miles from my Sister's yet, so they're just waiting to see. The weather report isn't good - they're expecting wind.

Well, she is calm and ready and like I said, I'm happy that her fiance is with her. He lives in a town close to us but is up at her place this weekend on a business trip and luckily has a van, so was able to load up lots of her things. The important thing is her art prints which are worth a lot of money and he's going to take them to his place (something they had to do anyway after the wedding).

Anyway, I did finally manage to get some sleep after 2:00am and slept until 9:30 this morning, so not too bad. When I finally did fall asleep I had a good one, so that wasn't too bad.

Have a nice Sunday, everyone. I'll keep you posted on what's happening.

Love - Momster

Your poor sister.....I can't imagine what they must be going through. The waiting and wondering must be horrible for you too.

I will keep them in my prayers.

Hugs

How very fortunate that he was there for her this weekend.

I hope you know I'm keeping everything crossed that no (more) homes will be affected.

Hi Momster,
Is your sister in B.C. also? I sure hope they can contain the fire. I know you are worried but this is another one of those cases where there's not a darn thing you can do. Maybe sister will come for a visit!

Getting Better

Post by Momster »

Things seem to be looking better now, but it's always scary at night because it's harder for the firefighters to control things in the dark.
It seems to be they are getting things under control and have allowed some evacuees back home. My Sister didn't have to leave, but is still on standby.
Yes, she does live in BC also - about 4 1/2 hours from me to the east.
She will be moving to a town only 20 minutes from me at the end of September so I'm happy about that.
She and her fiance got mst of her valuable prints loaded in his van and she has some things ready to put in the car if she has to run, but it looks like it's going to be okay.
It's in Kelowna, BC and they had a terrible fire in 2003 on the other side of the lake from her and it destroyed several high end homes. The Kelowna fire department did a great job then and they got lots of practice to be able to get a handle on this one quickly. I don't know how to put a link in, but you can find the information on BC Wildfires and the one near her place is the Rose Valley Wildfire.
Anyway, I hope it will stay under control and all will go smoothly for her wedding and move at the end of September.

Talk to you later - thank for being here for us.

Hi Momster,
How scary, I just hate forest fires. I sure hope all is well with your sis and everyone one else in the area.

Keep us posted.
