Yep. USDA is going to replace the much-maligned "Food Pyramid" with a probably equally inept "Plate Icon". :monkey:

Apparently, they feel that their choice of methods for delivering the information is the reason for declining health in this country, rather than the corrupt dietary advice that they offer.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/05/28/us ... rss_health

I've always thought that it was quite appropriate for the biggest, (fattest), portion of the pyramid to represent the bread, cereal, rice, and pasta group, since those foods are the primary reason why obesity is at epidemic proportions in this country, today. USDA does a great job of making diet recommendations, doesn't it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Our tax dollars at work on another stupid project. Pyramid, plate, whatever. Agree the starch end is way too big.

Just imagine how many tax dollars went into that brilliant idea.

How *classic* is that solution? Let's change the shape of the graphic! It sure gets around (what they consider to be) the real problem... which is that the phrase "food pyramid" has become a joke.

The reporter said that putting fats and sweets at the top of the pyramid was "counter-intuitive." Okay, just how stupid do they think consumers are? We understand height, but we don't understand size?

Well, Marliss, those folks aren't the brightest bulbs in the marquis... so it didn't cross their mind that us foolish eaters might actually have a clue.

In fact, a friend's kindergartener once pointed to the little diamonds at the very top (in the sugars arena) - and she said... "see that one? it's candy."

They should have hired her to redesign the graphic, come to think of it ;)
